Deleting Apps in Xperia E3

Hi there,

I know my phone has a 4 Gb memory and the store told me that that is not enough for many other apps... I didn't mind and I got the phone... Really like it but, Is there any way to delete some apps I'm not using, like Evernote or Keep, 'cause I don't see the point of having them both if they do the same! I'd like to keep only ONE of these not the two of them!

Welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

Disabling pre-installed apps in the phone may cause other apps to misbehave, the safest way to free up some space in the internal storage is to clear the data of apps that take up a lot of space rather than disabling them or perhaps you could invest in an SD card so you can transfer data like photo's, video's and music over.

If it's a preloaded app, you can't uninstall it unless you root the device.

Hi Sophia,

I've got a SD card for photos, music or videos. The problem is that I can't even update pre-installed apps in my phone... That and the fact that I'm not using some apps (and I won't) are the reason why I'm asking about deleting some of those useless apps (useless for me, obviously!)

@JediStitch When there are updates available for any apps on the phone you should receive a notification. If you go into Play Store, tap the three lines in the top left hand corner and then tap My apps - there you will be able to see if any of them need updating. Rooting your device could void the warranty yes.

Yes, I've done that, but as soon as the phone start the downloading of the update, It is cancelled due to the lack of memory in the phone. Therefore, I've got around eight apps updated and more than ten needing an update. I don't see the point in pre-installing a lot of apps if there's not going to be enough memory to update all those apps. And at the top of it, I can't even update google play store!

Is there any solution for it? A real one?

You need to delete apps to free up space if you want to install or update apps, if you want to root your phone then you will be able to uninstall preloaded apps, there's no other solution.

Keep in mind that all companies preloaded apps, even nexus phones. Samsung is the worse at this.

There is so much talked about this type of topic on forums that I am really surprised that Sony does not do something about it.

I have an E3 populated with bloatware which cannot be removed. All the Apps I have installed have been moved to the SD card. However, when this is done there is still a residual footprint on the device so eventually the device memory is used up and no more apps can be installed. I called Sony Support who advocated doing a Factory Reset - like that is going to fix the issue. I would just have to reinstall all of the apps again and be back a square 1. The solutions are obvious.

1 - don't install the bloatware in the first place - it just destroys customer goodwill

2- Make bloatware removable

3 - install more memory.

It is ridiculous that the only solution is to root the phone.

PS does anyone know where I can find a reliable guide to rooting the E3

Users are aware of how much internal memory its available on the device before they buy it, with that said, we all want more memory.

bloatware is preinstalled in ALL phones, unless you get a nexus phone

Now I understand why Sony is never mentioned when recommendation is asked for.

Even mine is a company phone and I swear I'll never get close to another one in private and I've been warning my folks not to since I got to know this.

"Even Samsung is doing that" is not a valid defence; children in kindergarten use this kind of phrase. I have a Sony and I would need an acceptable solution from Sony. If I have trouble with Samsung, I will bang on their doors.

Yes, and if they don't know how the producers behave, the get surprised seeing that more than half of that memory is occupied by software they did not ask for.

Like you purchase a 4 person car and it arrives with 2 built-in guys at the back and a sticker on the wheel "Sorry, you knew what you would buy."
