This has nothing to do with SD cards.

I've set my phone to record to internal memory and all my 4k videos are choppy, loosing frames and practically unusable. Also, no I don't have almost any apps running in the background as I use very few non stock apps and tested it as well just after factory reset without any additional apps.

This is Sony basically not caring about proper quality assurance of their products. Releasing a phone in 2019 with unusable 4k video recording? It's just pathetic and I'm not sorry for them loosing millions of $$$ on mobile division as they deserve it 100% for ignoring their consumers and releasing unfinished low quality products.

Also, no Sony is not on the case unless you can provide a proof of them:

1. Acknowledging the problem; and

2. Promising to fix it with future updates.

Can you? If not then we assume Sony doesn't care and will not fix it like with many other things they ignored over the years.

If I didn't know any better, I would guess you have either a lot of apps all running/syncing in the background, are using a crappy memory card(no matter what brand or if it's "good" , if you are recording onto SD.

If you are using an SD card, you really need a card that's capable of 4k recording say, in a dashcam, something with a high read/write speed.

I've tried Samsung and the high speed Sandisk, but found them poor and nowhere near what's advertised.

Best results so far are with MyMemory branded cards, advertised speeds, and no quibble lifetime warranty.

The issues is software most of the time, my phone can't record 4k non HDR properly ( droops lots of frames), but ok with 4k HDR recordings, is still overheating easily, no cooling setup on the processor and they should run lower voltages, i never had no heating issues with my XZ Premium. I'm using the default Camera app.

4K HDR with 2X and 1X (52 and 26 mm lens) lens work fine

4K no HDR possible (16 mm lens) drop frames, choppy... no good

4K non hdr broken on all lenses 16, 26 and 52 mm.

Also lower resolution modes 1080p or lower are hit and miss,

Default Camera app is junk, the Pro app works but no Optical stabilization and no full auto mode or 16/9 mode
