VGN-CS11Z horizontal lines across bottom of screen :(

Please can anyone tell me whether I need to buy a new screen for my Sony VGN-CS11Z or simply a new screen inverter.

Symptoms:

For a period of time I have noticed faint horizontal lines across the bottom of my laptop screen. I now realise that what is flashing at the bottom of my screen is what I can see at the top 1/8 inch of my screen (top slice of all icons at the top of my desktop).

The lines are beginning to obstruct the taskbar.

Any suggestions on which item I should purchase or if they too have encountered this problem and managed to rectify it without the need to replace the screen/inverter?

You could try reinstalling the graphics driver first.

After that, try an external monitor to see if the problem is your screen or the GPU/Drivers.

I think it is unlikely to be the inverter as that controls the backlight not the screen image.

Hello,

If the steps writted by blencogo and pctech33, finally doesn´t work and you need to replace the screen, I recommend you to visit accupart or analogic computers, both of them will change you the screen in minutes.

Hi,

You might see the presence of random lines all over the screen in some occasions in your sony Laptop. Often, troubles are created due to this. You would see the vertical and horizontal lines. You could solve this problem easily with the help of LCD BIST test. For this you would have to press the function key and follow the instruction as the LCD BIST runs several colored screen.

I have same problem. It is the screen as external screen is fine. Sony know of this fault and have extended the warranty on the screen in USA - but not in Europe!!! : (
