I have Sony Vaio PCG-Z1XSP.

The touchpad no longer works, and is no longer detected in System config. I am not sure if a hardware prblem or a problem with drivers. I am using a logitech USB mouse, not sure if installing this screwed up the drivers. If I try to unistall Logiteh mouse drivers, and unplug the logiteh mouse, on reboot, touchpad still does not work and is not in the system list of hardware.

Any way of knowing if a driver or hardware problem?

Have you tried using Windows Restore to restore the computer to a time prior to you installing the Logitech mouse?

It is worth going to Vaio Link and downloading the latest drivers for the alps TOUCHPAD.

Probably your LOGITECH drivers have over written the touchpad drivers, or disabled them. Possibly (I will have to check on my Z1RSP,) you can go to Sony Notebook set up and disable the touchpad altogether.

Re using restore disk, I was trying to avid doing this until the last option. I have downloaded the latests drivers from Sony web, but problem still remains I cannot update drivers because system config does not see the alps touchpad. I cannot see anywhere in sony setup program where the touchpad can be disabled/enabled.

It would seem that maybe the touchpad is no longer working, hence why it cannot be seen by Windows.

Unless anyone can suggest anything else?

I wasn't suggesting that you use the recovery disk, I meant the Windows system restore program. Start - all programs - accessories - system tools - system restore.

This will minimise any possible data loss, and has the added bonus that it can be undone if it doesn't make any difference.
