It really does howl...and it is getting irritating! I am certain that it never used to make such a noise when I first bought my 816s. I was reading on another forum and a user actually opened up his laptop near the fan and so a lot of dust build up inside - not reachable from any of the air vents so can't use air spray...how does dust get inside anyway? What would be a safe method in proceeding to clear the dust? Thanks.

oh yes... it does get loud

hi,

i have a GRT816M... and mine is getting louder also... i also have the feeling that notebook ist kind of slow, though the intel 2,8 Ghz processor, on the internet i found information that this is because sony has block a lot of functions in the bios.

to open your notebook, remove the screw by the memory stick slot, then lightly slide the black ventpanel to the left and lift it up.... carefully though, because of the speaker and the ms slot cable connections.... after you have removed the ventpanel, take out center screw right above the function keys... then you can lift up the keyboard and remove it.
the fans are right underneath.

joe

hi,
it is not official... otherwise i would already have kicked sony's butt
the person who told me about this bios blocking was just fired by sony and his opinion for them cutting the bios short, is so that these models won't clinch with the newer models (grt9xxx series).

ever since i've been trying to find information on the internet on that subject, and possible bios upgrade or replacement. sony hasn't answered any emails on this subject yet. if i find more info i'll post it.

joe
