Replacement of DW-56A

HI,
I have VGN-A 317M with the grabber DW-56A which doesn't work anymore. It no longer reads or writes cd or dvd. I try to find a grabber which fits my notebooks.
I read the DW-56A post but the models which may fit my notebooks are no longer available.

I think to get the Optiarc AD7590A. Do you think if it may fit my pc ? Or another model ?

Hi orange78.

Any IDE (back right-hand corner missing) slimline (0.5 inch thick) 5.25 inch drive should fit but there is sometimes a problem getting the faceplate that matches the side of your Vaio to fit on the new drive. This can need some handyman skills.

Unfortunately, the drive is held in by two internal screws on the A-Series Vaios - so you will need to remove the keyboard and also remove the palmrest to get at the screws.

Any IDE drive will fit my laptop ? I read there's some incompatibility between drive and laptop.

Bought the AD-7590A. It fits well my A317M.
