I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!
1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435
2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.
3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360
4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.
As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

Try some others. That looks like a 21:9 Bollywood film shown on a 16:9 screen, as evinced by the DOG extending above the visible film area, and the text lettering exhibiting the correct aspect ratio for the font I believe they are using.
I think this is a new bug introduced by the new firmware as I can't remember whether this has always been the case:
Changing channels switches subtitles off.
How to reproduce: switch on subtitles using the subtitles button on the remote control. Subtitles work. Channel up. Subtitles are off.
If this was a design feature by Sony then this must be the first tv to do this.
Hi apologies is this kind of problem has been posted.
I have the following: Sony KD-43X8305C, Sony HT-XT1 and Sony PS4.
I thought sticking to one brand would make this work together well but depsite all the bugs with the android tv (which for me is pretty much resoloved now) I still have one infuriating problem with audio sync when using the ps4. I have set everything up as instructed using the hdmi arc and optical cable and done a factory reset on the tv but still the same problem, only when using the ps4.
Any ideas?

~Not quite sure of your set up... i.e. what you're feeding where... Or why you'd need both ARC (if it works) and optical.
But; if you happen to be feeding an HDMI input to the TV ( your PS4) then out to your audio device (soundbar via Arc or Optical) - And the audio has surround sound encoded on it... You might find the picture leading the sound. - If so, this is yet another basic flaw with the set.
The 'cure' - although it's more of a bodge and not really a cure at all - is to go into your set's menu and set the audio to 'PCM' only... If you had a full surround system this would be unacceptable as it kills the surround modes. But as your device is basically just a pair of stereo speakers this should be of no consequence.
Does PCM "kill" surround audio though? I can remember the days before hdmi 1.3 when you could decode multichannel sound in the player then send it as PCM to the amp, the audio was indistinguishable from bitstream.
I've got sky HD, a PS4 and an apple tv4 connected to hdmi's1,2 and 3 with hdmi 4 arc to a Denon soundbar, I don't see lip sync problems at all?
The point being Kev that you were decoding surround in the player... PCM stands for 'Pulse code Modulation'; It's just uncompressed (or decompressed) digital audio. - In this particular case it's the de-compressed and decoded (into stereo) feed that would then go to the sets internal D>A converter and from there drive the analogue amplifers and speakers...
There are no lip-sync problems on PCM because that Is basically what is being fed to the set's speakers and the set is built around that...
This set has no surround sound decoding or capability (CODECS need licensing!) - so, if you have a proper surround amplifier, and you need IT to do what it's supposed to do - you need to pass the compressed (i.e. 'not decoded') stream straight through to the A/V amp, seperate decoder or whatever... And this is what the first two modes in the audio set up do...
Interestingly, where the broadcasters transmit surround, - if the set is switched to mode '2' so that it outputs PCM unless it detects a surround stream it will send that signal (usually Dolby) to the amp with no lip-sync problems. - I've no interest in streaming services so haven't tried it; but presumably the set would also be 'OK' on those....
But it's on HDMI inputs where the problem lies... These sets introduce a delay (certainly through the optical output) which causes the picture to lead the sound... It's called latency! It's especially bad on DTS and can actually vary from disc-to-disc and/or player-to player... I've tried about 1/2 dozen from different manufacturers...
Though again (oddly) an Echostar HDR/tuner passing though Dolby has little or no problem!
The 'delay' facility on the amp can't help... Because of course the PICTURE is leading...
In my own case I've no facility to use ARC - Which seems (having now tried the set with a few audio devices) to be very hit-and-miss in any case... I found a few new-ish soundbars that it wouldn't work with too...
A 'soundbar' is basically just a couple of speakers and an amp in a box... It's primary purpose is to compensate for the fact you cannot physically produce decent sound from the loudspeakers in modern sets due to the very restricted cabinet size... In years gone by some pretty rubbish speakers could be fitted inside a lovely chipboard box and made sound almost-respectable... But ye canny change the laws of physics! - Thus the 'soundbar' was born!
And is very much a necessity for any stand-alone TV setup IMHO!
Feeding a soundbar PCM will be fine... Just as you can't physically fit a Volvo inside a Mini, you cannot physically create surround sound (as it was intended) without the proper speaker set-up... There are a few 'tricks' sounbars play to give pseudo-surround; but they are what they are...
However, for those that want to make full use of 'more complete' audio systems; these sets present SEVERE problems!
Just got an email from Curry's accepting I was right, apologising and telling me I could return the set.
Thank you for the help and advice, and good luck to anyone in the same boat.
