How can i tell if my tv is 10bit or 8bit

Hi guys hope someone can help my friend is in the market for a uhd/4k tv and I recommended the one I have. It's a kd55xd7005 model and we are arguing over whether or not it is 10bit, reading the specs would suggest it is, but then it mentions HEVC. Done some homework on it and I'm under the impression that it is a 10bit but now not sure, as he claims it's 8bit with 10bit upscale, could someone be able to help and clarify this either way for me please?

The panel is 8-bit FRC. So it uses dithering to give you the illusion of 10-bit.

Why should HEVC contradict 10-bit? The Main 10 profile is perfectly capable of encoding video in 10-bit. In fact, it is probably the most widely used codec for HDR video.

Hi @Wanna-b-guru. Handy source for panel specifications https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/8c5d631

As already stated 10 bit (8 bit + FRC).

If he is your friend advise him to buy a different brand of TV than Sony.
