Hi there,
I want to start by saying this is by far one of the best TVs I have ever owned. Absolutely blown away by it. I did a software update on it about 2 days ago to version PKG6.0614.0004EAU and for some reason my Soundbar which is connected via ARC has randomly stopped working correctly. I own a Sony ht-ct390 and have never had any issue until the update.
> Checked Bravia Sync is enabled (it is).
> It actually lists my device in the Bravia Sync menu.
Randomly it will connect to the soundbar then disconnects saying TV speakers active due to Audio System Communication Failure.
Ive reset the TV and this has fixed nothing. Tried different HDMI cables for the soundbar and still the same issue. Ive even tried the soundbar on a different TV and it works fine.
Any idea how it can be fixed?
I know this thread is years old, but I'm having the exact same issue now in 2019, but with my Sony 65" XF900, connected to a Denon AVR-x6300H, when trying to use ARC for Netflix on the TV app to go back to the AVR. I can use an optical cable which works, but this way it won't process the metadata enabling me to get Dolby Atmos on Netflix. Similarly, it's an intermittent issue that sporadically works and then doesn't work, then works, then doesn't, and so forth. Very puzzling and frustrating. The TV is on the latest Android available and everything is up to date. There's nothing wrong with the HDMI cable as its the same single cable used to connect all my other devices through the Denon AVR-x6300H to my TV. Did anyone here eventually find a solution to this problem?
Kind Regards.
Thanks for the reply, appreciate it. Unfortunately however, this doesn't help my situation, since I'm not using a soundbar, but running an AVR, which is irreplaceable. I'm not sure where to begin with this issue, if there is any point in contacting Sony support I wonder?
Kind Regards.
Going into 2020 and still facing the same problem with my KD-75x8500F.I am Using Sony sound bar HT-Z9F. My HDMI cables are all Somy. I have been facing this problem lately as I have not faced any of this before. I used to cast youtube from my phone directly to the tv, and the sound would come auto from my sound bar. I would also play youtube and other apps from the TV, and the audio would come directly from my sound bar with no hustle. However, lately I am experiencing the same problem mentioned in this thread. When playing apps from the tv, it would only output audio through the tv speakers. As for my other hdmi connected devices (receiver) it works fine. I have reported this to Sony support through the phone, where I realized that the specialist is familiar with it, and that it’s been going on for a while with no solution. I am really frustrated, as a paid close to 2100 £ for that 75 inch tv, and my “state of the art” sound bar. Unfortunately, seems like Sony is not helping a great deal. Mind that I have tried all the fixes mentioned in the thread. I did a factory reset for my tv. I hope we all get an answer to this frustrating problem.

Mine stopped randomly one day about a month ago - tried everything still will not recognise the TV - just get the can't communicate issue - works fine through sky PS4 and sony blu ray - but will not work when on TV - nothing changed or moved about just stopped working one day
Mine just started doing this. My tv is a KD-55XF8505 and everything was fine until today. Didn’t change anything. I’ve tried unplugging everything and doing the factory reset. Do Sony monitor these forums?
Hello, I figured out the ARC problem with my setup. Turns out that ARC functionality is flakey, regardless of the brand of TV, apparently. Anyway, the solution the the ARC functionality mysteriously collapsing for me, was to ensure that one of the devices connected to my Denon AVR is always turned on. Even if it is in standby, the ARC functionality will eventually collapse if said device is not turned on. The explanation as to why this happens is completely beyond me, it's really kooky.
If you have any questions about what I'm talking about, I'll try to answer them as beat I can.
Hi Tank84, I've this problem too with my Sony KD-49XF9005 TV and Sony HT-SF200 soundbar and like you say I think it's too so with when the TV is left on and the auto powers down.
Can you explain how you got your set up working again please?
Hello.
I don't understand why it is that my ARC works. But I can try to explain how it is that mine works. All of my media devices are connected via a Denon AVR to send video to my TV and audio to my external home theatre speakers. If I want to get audio from say Netflix on my TV back to my Denon via ARC to send audio to my speakers, then I have to ensure that ARC is turned to 'On' within the Denon settings, and crucially I have to ensure that the Humax Freeview box - also connected directly to my Denon AVR - is turned on. By tuned 'On' I don't just mean at the plug socket, I mean also not in standby mode. I have no idea why this is the case. All I know is that ARC functionality will collapse if the Humax is in standby mode.
Any questions?
Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I did some more digging and testing and have pinpointed that it's definitely the Humax Freeview box which is causing the issue. Once I worked that out some Google searching turned up lots of posts from folk with similar problems. There seems to be an issue with the Humax where it's sending signals over HDMI CEC when it shouldn't be. See this interesting post: https://myhumax.org/forum/topic/tv-arc-sound-only-works-when-humax-turned-on
I've ordered a HDMI CEC less adapter and will try that next week when it arrives to see if it cleans up the issues: https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=lindy+hdmi+cec+less+adapter&crid=1CPWPUQJ0FP81&sprefix=lindy+hdmi+%2Cap...
