No sound on KD48A9

If I turn off my new Sony KD48A9 TV before turning off my Sonos Beam sound bar, when I next turn the TV on without the sound bar, there is no sound from the TV. The only way to restore the TV sound is to wade through the menus to select TV speakers, what a pain. I am guessing that this is probably a Sony Bravia sync issue due the fact that my sound bar is not a Sony product. Any ideas?

If you connect the Sonos Beam via an HDMI cable to the ARC HDMI port on your Sony TV, have BraviaSync Sync (CEC) enabled on the TV, and CEC (or whatever Sonos call CEC) enabled on the Soundbar;

then the TV should play through the Sonos, possibly turning it on for the purpose, unless it is powered down, or using another input;

and if the TV can’t fire up the Sonos, or can’t use it for any reason, then it should autoswitch to its own speakers, and play through those, or play through headphones if you have those connected to the TV.

If this does not happen, and all the requirements above are fulfilled, then either the Sony or the Sonos is at fault, irregardless of them being different makes.

Hi thanks for your reply. Bearing in mind that both my TV and Sonos Beam are brand new, I hope I am not looking at a fault. I have the Beam connected to the TVs HDMI arc port, the Sonos Beam only has 1 HDMI port which is an arc port. I believe the CEC must be correctly set up because I can turn the TV on and off via speech control from the Beam. The Sonos Beam also appears in the Bravia Sync device list on the TV. It is all a case of remembering to swich off the Sonos Beam first and waiting for the TV to switch back to its own sound output before swiching the TV off, this sequence results in the TV sound being OK when next switched on. So clearly, the TV is not defaulting back to its own sound output if it is switched off while outputting sound through the Sonos Beam. I can't see how this can be caused by the Beam? This is a brand new Sony TV model, my be its a software issue. The only way to prove it would be to try another manufacturer's sound bar, which I don't have. I will just have to live with the issue for now.

Hi @stwilli34

Have you made sure the TV and the Beam are up to date?

If they are, try to disable Bravia Sync and the equivalent option on the Sonos, power everything down at the mains for a couple of minutes, then re-enable the feature and test

Hi Win_88 thanks for your reply. I can confirm both TV and Sonos Beam are up to date. I have tried what you have suggested but I am still getting the same result. However, I have noticed that if the TV is only switched off using its remote control prior to switching off the Sonos Beam then switching off the Beam then the TV back on using its remote, the TV selects its own sound OK. But if the TV is switched off from the remote then from the mains prior to switching off the Sonos Beam, then switching off the Beam. Now restoring the mains power to the TV and turning it back on results in no sound output. I have now edited what appears in the quick settings menu to include the speakers choice sub menu, so if I have the issue I can quickly correct it.
