sony kd55xd8599 streaming

i have a new sony kd55xd8599

i have a wdmycloud hard drive connected to my home network, the television is seeing the cloud device  but will not play the dvds ( MP4 FORMAT ) i have ripped to it, it does see and play mp3 music files

any thoughts

thankyou

p.s. i have since found a sort of solution to this problem

i downloaded the archos app thru the google play store on the T.V.

The archos app when opened does find the cloud device and does play the video files, allbeit not in brilliant quality

i would still be interested in knowing why these video files do not play directly thru the tv video app,as far as i can tell MP4 files should be ok  ?????

p.p.s.

regarding my comment concerning the archos app,i have since discovered that this app is not letting me access all the content from the wdmycloud nas

it is showing only content in alphabetcal order for titles up to C

i have been using the UPNP part of the network menu

am i missing something?

look forward to any comments

thanks

does anyone have any thoughts on my pps

thanks

Hi both

A couple of replies have been added to this thread - which may help and explain things:

https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/android-tv/trying-to-connect-my-cloud-to-our-new-bravia-43xd8088/m-p...

Also, these are the file formats and codecs supported by your TV:

http://helpguide.sony.net/tv/caep1/v1/en/contents/TP_codeclist_other.html

So even though the TV natively supports the MP4 container, it is the codec within the container that is also important.  Have a read of the following, as it explains things well.
