DCR-SR70 - how can I transfer footage from the camera to a laptop or memory stick

Hi, I have a DCR- SR70 which is full of sentimental footage.  I've never saved anything to a laptop or any other device.  The camera came with a dvd with instructions and a programme to follow but our laptops no longer have a dvd drive so this is no good.  Can anyone advise how I might be able to transfer data?  I'm scared of losing stuff but its no good on the camera alone.  I think I still have a docking station if that's helpful.  Any help or advice would be very much appreciated

Have you never downloaded any videos to your computer from the camera?

If so you are living very dangerously if you have not been downloading and backing up your videos.

Click on the link below which will take you to the Sony support site for your camcorder.

https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/hard-drive-camcorders-dcr-sr-series/dcr-sr70e

Here you can download the operating instructions where you will find out how to download your videos

to your laptop. (probably via US)

You can also download the Play Memories software which is still available even though Sony were going to remove it in 2020.

I hope the software is still compatible with your laptops operating system.

The alternative would be to borrow a DVD player/ writer to install the software on your laptop but that might be an even older version of the software and not compatible with more modern operating systems.
