I have a sony giga juke. It will not turn on using the remote - it is showing a blue flashing light as if it is in standby but the controls on the unit or the remote will not work. This happended before and I had to turn it off at the mains. Has anyone had this problem.

Hi Steve,
As far as I know the player uses Gracenote (or similar) to get the CD info, as do all other products of this type. I have done the fix and it has worked for me so far, including uploading new CD's perhaps your boxed set was too new to be included in the database yet ? I wonder what model yours is. Mine is the NAS 500.

Lee,
I finally had time last night to try the temporary fix. All seemed fine, with the main NAS-S500HDE connected wirelessly using the supplied dongle (UWA-NA1)) to the supplied wireless station (WAP-NA1) using AOSS. My two NAS-C5E's, also connected via AOSS to the NAS-S500HDE & played ok.
As I last step last night, I then connected the wireless station to my main router.
This morning I tried to turn on the NAS-500HDE. Green on the power button, & main bank of buttons on the front of the Gigajuke glowed blue, and the unit then froze. Unplugged the wireless station from my router, and then reset (power & stop) the Gigajuke, and it's been playing all day, but unconnected to the internet.
Just to confirm my set up:
NAS-S500HDE connected wirelessly using AOSS to supplied wireless station (WAP-NA1) NOT connected to main router. Two NAS-C5E's also connected via AOSS.
SOftware - 1.00.08
System Micro - 1.00A
Hope that helps.
I have a stack of CD's growing and I do not relish the thought of having to manuallyt enter the CD details, so please get a working fix?
Cheers,
hedgehog
Thanks for your reply Alan
I'm (almost) using the NAS-S55HDE. I'll give it another go in the morning but not expecting too much. Just waiting....And waiting for Sony to sort out this major problem for their 'valued' customers.
Cheers, Steve
Hi, I've had the Gigajuke NAS-S55HDE for about 3 years now. Just this week, the system froze as above (wouldn't turn on from standby-blue light, etc) so tried to reboot using the Stop + standby button method. Now the system gets stuck in a cycle where it crashes about a minute after the 'please do not turn off' screen appears and then restarts.
Therefore the system never gets to boot up and I cannot make any adjustments. This means that the system is redundant, as is the NAS wireless box that I have in the other room. A few months ago, the dongle stopped working as well.
Although it has some poor points (terrible user interface, boot time, useless internet radio feature,no software updates in the three years we've had it) we do rely on this system a lot and have our extensive CD collection on it and use it every day to its full potential. Decent sound, hard drive and wireless capabilities are the plus-points.
I would hate to think that this quite expensive package only has a shelf life of three years.
I would appreciate if Sony could get back to me through my e-mail address as for some reason, I cannot log into the e-mail section of the support page using the same details that I have used to post this message.
Hi reet63
It sounds as if you may be experiencing something different than the majority of other users on here. For most our systems started 'freezing' with the blue light slowly pulsing mid-september time. Sony have released a temporary fix which works intermittently on some models, but seemingly not on the S55HDE. The fault only manifests itself if the system is connected to the internet. As far as I know no music has been lost.
What is the problem with your system exactly, and how long has it been going on?
I have the Gigajuke NAS S55HDE which has started with the blue light freezing mid sept
I am cross as I love my music and would like to just play it when ever I want to.
I am now having to reset my unit everytime I want to play it as each time I switch it off it Freezes
I am not brilliant at computers etc and am cross that I cant just switch on and play when I want to.
The worst thing for me is a heck of a lot of my music is from MP3's I have purchased and put onto my juke.
The unit cost me a fortune as well as the satalite system I brought to go with it.

All, I am receiving my SH55 from Sonys Service agent this afternoon. They have my Gigajuke and My brothers which both failed on the same day!
The service Agent replaced the Hard drive on his Unit. The thinking behind it was maybe there was an error on the disk forcing the analysis to keep ongoing. The issue now with his unit is they cannot reload the Gigajuke operating system as they do not have the software. Sony have provided them the access to the Service agent Website to retrieve Gigajuke operating system but the FTP server directory is empty. When they queried Sony on this they knew the directory was empty. Therefore his box is now a large black door stop!
Luckily for me I found this forum 30 minutes after my Gigajuke was picked up and managed to stop them doing anything with mine. At least I will be able to try the workarounds but the lack of network connectivity is no good to me as I have an extender box too.
Sony need to resolve this ASAP! Else I will have no choice but to file a Small claims action against them for the Gigajuke and the extender box under the Sale of Goods act.
Sony's whole response on this issue has been appalling. They initialling told me there was no issue despite the fact I could provide evidence 2 units failed with the same issue on the same day!
Where are the Sony techs Updates? They have yet to identify the actual issue correctly which I find unbelievable. Surely their engineers would have captured a wireshark trace to establish where the Gigajuke is trying to access?
SONY - GET A GRIP WITH THIS AND SUPPORT YOUR PREVIOUSLY LOCAL CUSTOMERS!
Hi SteveJudd
One of the worst things of this whole fiasco is how Sony have treated their customers. Unless a Giga Juke owner finds this forum, they have no idea there is an issue. Before I stumbled across here, customer service repeatedly lied to me and told me it was user error. The Sony technical dept did eventually inform my repair agent of the problem but asked that it was kept form me. It is appalling.
There must be large numbers of people paying repair agents to do unnecessay work because Sony will not admit there is an issue.
This episode is a one in long line of bad Sony customer care, and for me is the final straw. I will not be buying another Sony product. Luckily, unlike years ago, Sony products are not the best performing or best value now anyway, and their products do not seem to last. Panasonic, for example, are outstripping them on almost every front.
I also will not be letting this issue lie.
I have created a case with "BBC Watchdog" and will advise if they get back to me. I have pointed them to this forum.
Anyone want to set up a Facebook Group on this? The more Gigajuke users out ther that become aware the better.
Good idea Steve, the Facebook group idea may be a great way to get the message out to the masses. I'm guessing that there are many more people out there suffering the same fate as those on here.
Let me know if this gets set up and I'll certainly add my name to the group.
