BBC iplayer app issues

I'm having weird issues with the BBC iplayer function on my Sony KDL-49WE663. 

The majority of programmes I try to watch just stall at around 5-10 minutes before the end. The player needs frequent re-booting, often suggests an issue with playing that title and eventually just thinks that I've watched it. 

I've downgraded the video quality to basic but it hasn't helped. The tv is in the same room as the router and connected via wifi. None of my other devices have this issue so I've taken to connecting my laptop via hdmi but it's clearly not as convenient.  

I've tried refreshing the internet content but that hasn't worked either. I'm on software v8.464-1000-1.700-0002. Any help appreciated.

In settings of IPlayer try to use Beta version, it seems to be more stable. Alternatively download BBC IPlayer App for your smartphone and cast or air play from it to your TV, it should play in the background so you can still use your phone.

I'll check on the beta option. I can't cast as I have an iPhone. Thanks for the suggestions.
