DVD ROM shutting down laptop

Hi my PCG FX501 has been acting a little odd for a while now. Randomly (and recently more likely then not) when the eject button is pressed or the drive is right clicked and eject in my computer it just shuts the computer down instantly. Not that long ago the computer was reformatted and continued to do the same. All drivers and BIOs is up to date from the vaio link site. Have tried to update the drivers for the drive but can't find a match for it

All I can guess is that it's a hardware fault. Didn't do it for quite some time after I bought it.

Anyway any ideas of how to rectify this problem would be much appreciated.

So, when you press the eject key on the drive to get the DVD out it crashes?

I'm positive I've heard of this before, google the problem I don't think it's all that unusual actually.

Oh oops I thought you meant it crashes sorry. www.vaio-link.com is the place to get the phone number to call. Maybe if you press the 'off' button it will eject the disk

Very odd problem this.
You've not installed any ASPI drivers / Roxio Easy CD or Nero lately?

nope not as far as I know, but then I'm not the main person who uses the computer, but I doubt anyone else would have done so.

I am reluctant to call vaio as the PC is well out of warranty and it's ten pounds a call or something like that? And in past experiences with the help line it's not been any help, well like most technical help lines in fact.

I have a bad feeling it's hardware too, so that would bring up costs too.
