I've got the problem with my 850s not reading CD's but happy with DVD's.
So I followed the other thread and did all that stuff without success but at least I could get CD audio to play. It'd be scratchy and distorted for the first few tracks and then once you moved it to the middle and back end of the CD it was fine.
I cleaned the laser with a cotton bud to remove dust and then decided to do a clean reinstall from system recovery to rule out software error.
Initially I got the I/O error which I am working on at the moment but I've got 2 Primary IDE channels in Device Manager. I've also got 2 Ultra ATA Controllers which are subtly different - one is an Intel 82801G and the other is an Intel 82801GBM/GHM. So I'm wondering, since this doesn't strike me as right...does anyone else have the same config?
Help would be appreciated, as I've spent nearly 2 days now trying to diagnoise and fix this problem (its moving towards hardware call and I can't really be without this device since its a business unit and I've got no replacement anymore).
