I have been having printer problems which I hope someone can help me with.
My laptop is a Sony Vaio laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit) Service Pack 2; my printer is a HP Photosmart C8180 connected to my wireless network; and I'm using a BT Home Hub router.
When I first got my printer, it worked without problems, however recently I've not been able to print from my Sony Vaio laptop. The printer is visible in the "printers" menu, it states "ready" and has a green tick. When I try and print (either a test page or from Word or any other program) the document tries to be sent to the printer, but after a few moments I receive an error in the printer window saying "error - printing" and also I get "document failed to print" pop up from the HP Solutions Center.
I do have another laptop connected to the printer (a HP laptop) via the same wireless network and this one works without problems. My HP laptop is running Windows Vista Business.) So this proves that the printer and the connection to the wireless network is working, so this means it's a problem with the communication from my Sony Vaio.
I have double checked that the printer is connected the wireless network, and re-run the wireless set up wizard. I've also pinged the printer and I get no errors. I have also re-installed the full feature software for the printer (several times), as well as restarting the print spooler, but again none of this helps.
The only things that have changed on my Sony Vaio recently, other than the standard updates, is I've installed Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.0 and Vista Service Pack 2. I've uninstalled Photoshop to see if that has caused the problem, but I receive the same error when trying to print. So, unless there's one of the other installed updates causing the problem, it appears as though Vista Service Pack 2 has caused a problem.
That's my diagnosis, but I don't know whether that's correct or what to do about it to fix the problem. Is this something you've encountered before? Can anyone help me?
