Java applets cause max. zoom and blank screen

Whenever a Java applet is run on my VAIO VGN-FE11S, my screen goes blank for a few seconds, before the Java applet appears at maximum zoom (the VAIO's zoom function is automatically activated), with nothing else visible. This has happened since I bought my VAIO in March 2006. Sometimes, pressing Fn-F10 will cycle through the different magnifications until it gets back to normal, but often this won't work and the only 'solution' is to hold down the power button and shut the machine down that way. Apart from being incredibly annoying, this is also a great way to cause data loss, so I really need to find a solution.

As my VAIO was this way out-of-the-box, I would guess that I'm not the only one who's experienced this problem.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, try to upgrade your Java software and your graphicard too... maybe this could fix it.:smileyhappy:

I've got the same problem. Latest Java installed but it is not fixed.
I experiment a solution. Try to change the configuration of the graphic card (mine is nVIDIA).
Anyway, this problem is really annoying. A complete solution is needed.

Yeah, it's incredibly annoying. I'm pretty sure that these VAIOs come with this bug 'out-of-the-box', so Sony should come up with a fix for it. Any ideas on how to contact them, without having to return the machine for warranty repair?

Cheers

Try reinstalling explorer 6.0/7.0 or install IE7.0 and disabling the JIT in the advanced security options then browse and enable it again. IE would be the problem not the hardware. It could be one of the new updates from MS as this has been reported as a problem for a lot of users.

This problem occurs when I run the Java Control Panel Applet, not only when I browse a page with embedded Java, so I don't think it has anything to do with IE. Also, I'm using Sun Java, not MS Java VM, and my browser is Maxthon - I get this problem when I browse pages using the built-in Gecko engine.

Uninstall Sun Java and use the MSJava and see if tune up utilities detect a scripting problem from here

I have this problem at my desktop PC too, since I've update the nvidia chipset drivbers etc.
But it's only when I'm using Opera, no problems in IE.:smileymonkey:
