New VAIO BD Problems

I've just got my new VAIO AW11Z today. It won't read Blu-Ray discs, CD/DVD's seem fine. There was an nVidia patch which I installed manually, but still no luck.

Any ideas please?

Hi Divine3000 and welcome.

Are you using the Intervideo WinDVD BD player to play your Blu-Ray Discs?

Do you get any error messages?

Is the Blu-Ray Region set to Region B?

Thank's for the welcome & reply

I am using WinDVD BD & region settings are correct. I'm not getting any error messages, the drive doesn't even seem to acknowledge Blu-Ray discs (When using 'explore' etc).

Hey
I have the same problem with my VGN-AR51J
When I look under the explorer I can't see that there is a BD inside or something else if I try to open the drive win vista said, please insert disk ...

I tryed to install the BD patch for mein notebook but it said that it isn't the right firmware for this system ... I have the standart drive (Optiarc BD ROM BC-5500A ATA).
I tryed the sony updater but it is also not working ...

I should be hearing from an engineer within the next couple of days, I'll post the results.

My money's on a hardware problem :slight_frown:

For the record:

VAIO support couldn't find a fix for this issue (within the 14-day period given by Sony Centres in which they will fully replace a defective notebook), therefore I have taken it back & I'm currently awaiting the arrival of a new machine.

Hopefully this will be problem free.

Although my AW11Z does play Blue Ray discs, it doesn't play AVCHD discs.

Neither does PS3 for that matter... must be a Sony thing...
