Hi all,
I have a weird problem with my Vaio PCG-F160.
I installed XP recently using the CD-ROM.
I then removed XP as the Notebook was too slow.
I then reinstalled 98 using the Recovery CD.
Since then the CD-ROm does not recognise any CD other than the Recovery CD.
I have tried loads of CD's.
I have tried new ones and old ones but the only CD that will work is the Recovery CD.
How weird is that?
If anybody has any idea about what is going on I would be greatful.
Thanks very much,
Mr Beare.:smileycry:
Welcome to the Club,
Fine upstanding noble name you have there. Hmmm you have to uninstall any versions of XP and reinstall using the following instructions Correct XP Install Wonder where James is? If you find him at his forum site tell him he is required to attend a CV piss up and to get details from Faith at CV.
Tony,
thanks for the reply.
I had XP running fine.... but slow as the notebook only has 64Mb Ram...etc...
I then uninstalled it.
I installed the Recovery CD ok... no problems.
Then when I go to use a CD, I get an error saying that there is no CD in the Drive except for the Recovery CD.
It reads it fine, no problems.
Has me stumped.
Where is the best place to get a replacement drive for this Notebook.
Thanks again,
regards
Mr Beare
Try this codec packK-Lite It is brilliant. Also if you have Nero test the drive and look at the drivers by right clicking my Computer/properties/drivers. Try deleting the drivers that are associated with the optical drive and restart. It should reinstall the drivers correctly. Try a cleaning CD also has worked for some. Good Luck
