Unable to center images on Desktop

I am having trouble with images that I set as my desktop background. When I set an image as my background I can tile it and stretch it but when I go to center the image nothing happens. Whatever colour is selected for the desktop colour is all that I see.

Does anyone know why this is happening and it there is a way to fix it?

Please help. It is really annoying!!!!

If you have your setting on 1280x800 and your display monitor is on 1 you should have no problems. I suspect you have a driver problem. Try restoring the system to a time before this happened and use this as a good diagnostic software Tune Utilities
