USB power surge?! Work around

I have recently brought a usb hub for the docking station of my FS215Z. However, when it connects to the docking station I get a message "bubble" saying "power surge" & I should reset my connection. (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=8...)

Oh dear.

WHen I Connect to the laptop I have no problem. I have been told that I should disable the protection on the Windows XP SP2 settings to get around this. Is this adviseable? (http://selfhelp.motioncomputing.com/Kbase/33-251658477.aspx)

Any ideas? Why am I getting this message - the equipment is all brand new!!! Cheers:smileycry:

Well these USB errors can be a bugger.

The solution MIGHT be very simple.

The thing is the device you are using on USB or devices may be drawing off too much power from your computer. it can supply half an amp (500mA) max. So it might be trying to chew off more than it can handle so to speak.

If your hub came with a mains adapter, NOW is the time to use it. Most good hubs (Belkin for instance) supply this additional adapter to overcome these problems.

What can happen is that one device works fine, but another will work erratically or stop all the devices from working at all.

IMHO it is not really anything major to worry about.

Hope this helps.
