VAIO preinstall and XP SP2 experiences?

Hello,
just got my new 17" VAIO. Has anybody installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 on the preinstalled Windows setup? Any problems?

What model?

Not much feedback has come about from SP2 yet, give it a bit of time, MS haven't fully RTM'ed it really.

This model is VGN-A197VP. I have still not yet applied the sp2. Perhaps I'll take a norton ghost image first to be sure..

Still, if there are any news on this, they would be nice to hear, thanks!

Ghost can save a lot of time.

I've installed RC2 of SP2 on a Vaio RZ-502 desktop, a Dell workstn and a Tosh laptop without issue.

I did take a Ghost image of the RZ-502 before starting (didn't care about the others).

It does take an age to process through - sometimes, the install process looks like it's stalled - not a bad idea to keep the task manager in view while the install processes.

If you're happy with any current firewall software (e.g. Zone Alarm) then just disable the new Windows Firewall (if it doesn't already do it for itself).

Apparently MS are blocking p2p in SP2

Ghost can save a lot of time.

not when it wipes your MBR like it did mine boohooooo, now when reloading the system my wifi on my GRT 816S WILL NOT work my lan connection no problem , but noo not my three different WiFI Cards, netgear 54g BUffalo 54g and Belkin 11b not a one will work !! any ideas - I currently set them manually to 192.168.2.0 - 192.168.2.66/255.255.255.0 subnet all my other pc's work but NOT any of my XP machines, one XP Pro and this XP Home that came with the VIAO cannot see what to do except load win 98 ME and take the network drivers off that lol grrrrrrrrr

I was going to wait for SP2 as well, but the automatic update downloaded it and installed it sneakily behind my back LOL. Victim of good service. Anyway, p2p works fine still on my computer, although the Windows firewall gave me hell. It detected I had a firewall and switched itself on anyway, crapping up half my permission settings. And the firewall I had already redected every program that wanted access all over again. Oh and Adobe Photoshop and Wordpad of all programs work extremely slowly on starting themselves up, but then work ok after 30 seconds.
And if you are already technologically knowledgeable it's a frustrating patch. I commend Microsoft for helping technology newbies out with this stuff, but I really wish there was a 'Not a newbie' setting so it didn't block out my wireless network and prevent me from downloading practically everything.
Oh and now when it repairs your connection it actually disconnects you, and yet doesn't add an option to manually disconnet (Still disable only). Grrr. Tyger is not impressed.

Just installed SP2 on my VGN-S1XP. Installed OK, but Explorer crashed everytime I right clikced on an object. I have removed SP2 and the problem has gone away.

I will attempt another installation when I have more time.:smileyhappy:

Think I'll leave XP SP2 where it belongs "with MS"
