I've bought a VGN-P21Z a few monthd ago anda from the begining it was kind of desilusion. I didn't install any software except Office 07 and Windows Live mail.
The Sony Help desk in Portugal told me that it's a frequently question of costumers here. According them the problem is the processor not being intel.
I'd like to hear if anyone had this problem and if someone solve it successfuly...
Hi WhiteVaio and welcome.
Technologically this is a brilliant machine at the cutting edge of technology - however the combination of a Intel® Atom™ Z520 and Microsoft Vista may disappoint where speed is concerned. Most Netbooks with a similar processor all use XP for this very reason.
What Internet Security Package are you using? - some of these are also too resource hungry, particularly with Office. It is also worth looking at what programs are loaded automatically at startup and prune these to the minimum.
You may find an upgrade to Windows 7 a good investment!!!
The problem is not the hardware. The problem is Sony's decision to ship these cute computers with the crappy Windows Vista - one of the WORST OS ever done by Microsoft. Either go back to Windows XP - an license at ebay costs only 20 EUR approx, or go forward to Windows 7, but in this very case you have to clean it after installation, means remove killers like Superfetch. Otherwise Win7 will be disappointing. A cleaned Win7, with classic Win appearance (!!!), fits in under 500 MByte RAM in my latest try. WinXP is 150 MByte RAM less. One more: turn the Paging file off in the virtual memory settings.
