WH-CH700N Noise cancelling

I've just received these phones and am very disappointed with the noise cancelling.

I know that higher frequencies are difficult to suppress, but even the sound of drums is hardly reduced at all. Standing next to an engine with steady noise I can only just notice the difference when switching NC on and off.  I've tried them on other people and they all agree that the difference is negligible.

Have I got a faulty pair, or are they all like this?

No need to reply to this thanks. I've done what I should have done before buying them, and read some reviews.

There are many complaints about the non-performance of the NC on these earphones.

These are going back to the supplier, and I'll be looking for something that actually works.
