Phone keeps going black when receiving calls

My phone keeps going black when receiving calls and it takes a while for phone to wake up. I have no screen protector. I cannot end the call. Very frustrating

Welcome to the community. I am sorry to hear about this.

Test the ear proximity sensor. To do this please go to Settings > About Phone > Diagnostics > Test > Ear Proximity Sensor.

Does it vibrate immediately or only when you cover the screen?

I have already done this. No change and I do not have a screen protector

Yes it passed all diagnostic tests. It also starts randomly clicking at times. I have had to remove from its case to stop this

Remove the phone from the case > boot in >>> safe mode > test the phone make and answer calls > do you experience the same issue?

mine does it as well and now stops charging after 3/9 sec, only a bit over a year old 

the only thing i can do is press the loud speaker and then it stays on
