5II - Occasional total freezes (unable to scroll) Whatsapp & Chrome

Anyone else noticed total screen freezes when using Chrome or Whatsapp and there is say an active Gif that the screen sometimes freezes, (can not be scrolled or back flicked) ??

 

(gestures turned on and running 58.0.A.22.21 UK unlocked Sony sold direct...  which I know is likely to be updated this week as last week O2 & EE had a new version "58.0.A.28.25" - but as Sony does not have a "what has been changed" advice with firmware updates I will assume it is just a security patch and not any new features or bug fixes. )

It could be the app itself that's containing a bug, try troubleshooting the app itself, like clearing it's cache and data ridding of any overload on the app, also make sure the app is updated.

Same problem here with Chrome 86.0.4240.198.

Never experienced it with WhatsApp though

Xperia 5 II just updated to firmware 58.0.A.28.25 and the freeze still happens

Hello, I think the steps mentioned above could help in this issue,but if they didn't work you can try to disable and force stop the app and then enable it again.

I also had this problem. Two times the screen has frozen completely. All side buttons still works but I cant restart/shutdown since the screen is dead. After half an hour, or so, the phone wakes up again.
The first time was during a phonecall, and the second just after I had hang up
Is there a way to restart it without involving the screen ? without a hard reset....

@nils.ab to restart without the screen, press power button and volume up simultaneously until the phone vibrates once.

 

Strange that this behaviour occurred on my 1II many times and still happens, pressing repeatedly power button sometimes wakes the phone up. But most of the time I have to force restart.

You can try the 2 mins restart, press and hold on both power and volume up keys for 2 whole mins, ignore any vibrations, then charge it till it shows the charging icon, then start it up.

Is there a physical keys test in the Support app?
