2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

I think the email uses a security token to reply the messages without authenticating. Be patient, but anyway I agree that is really bad that a company like Sony doesn't bother to give information and reply in the forum to their's customers. I thought Sony was a good brand, and probably... it was.

I wondered the same thing on how posts were getting onto the forum as I cant log on and I only just realised you could post directly onto the forum via email. I am concerned that this "Outage" indicates a really serious problem with Sony as a company, I do wonder why it is taking so long to get the site etc... seems very co-incidental too with the new FW coming out. It would be interesting to hear how it is going too but if no one realises, like me, that you can post via the emails sent informing you of new posts, then this may become a real issue. Still we shall see in the next few days what is going on.

Thanks for the tip. I've just downloaded and installed the latest update. Firmware version now showing 2.645 I just switched the TV off, after watching Netflix (to see whether the lip sync issues are sorted - they aren't 😞 ) and the TV has turned itself back on. This is something that I haven't experienced for months, it doesn't bode well.

They were once Manuel. They were once the gold standard. Not now. I have the luxury of working from home most of the time. So I'm sitting here going through some old tapes on one of their PVW-2800p Betacam (NOT Betamax - but the broadcast format based on a similar tape shell) machines; admittedly an industrial machine and as such far tougher than anything sold for the home market. Similarly we have several of their little 9" portable CRT monitors (some of us luddites prefer these for judging colour balance). All this stuff is decades old, been from pillar to post etc etc. Works fine! My NEW telly has just randomly rebooted and really it's as well it's nailed to the wall because I am at the stage where I'm almost afraid to physically touch it! L And yes Adyjay - This 'outage' seems just 'too convenient' - along with the censored posts that 'weren't censored' - We have a saying in Glasgow about not having sailed up the Clyde on a Banana skin (meaning that one is not easily fooled). If there's a large bright-yellow vessel apparently constructed from soft fruit skins moored outside BBC Scotland, Sony should be aware that it wasn't put there by any of the people they've fooled for any of the time!!! Once we get cut-off/banned/censored from here. We should take the conversation to a group email! (see below for MY address!) So. The new update. STILL problems with HDMI lip sync (latency)? Is the desperate satellite tuning fixed? - From the comment made by Cozzykim it would seem some fundamental problems just haven't been even looked at? REALLY Sony? REALLY? After all this REALLY? ________________________ Matt Quinn, Managing Director, The Caledonian Television Company Ltd matt@matt-quinn.com DT1 --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus

Maybe the TV needs a full reboot and also a rest to factory settings too for the FW to be effective?

I think that I'm going to do a full reboot, annoying as this is, just so that I can tick the "yes I've done a hard reset" boxes.

I think that we should go to email too, but I wont post it on here or it will be just used for Spam. I will answer any PM sent to me and supply my email there. We must stick together and keep the campaign up. If this update has done anything we shall find out soon especially if cozzykim is doing a full reset/reboot.

I have lost the faith sadly... when I spent 1k on a TV that is in effect rubbish.
