2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

I basically use the set as a display/basic TV only... Update applied, set fully power cycled, will-to-live further eroded! The problems I have are: 1) Random freezing and resetting - NOT YET EVALUATED 2) Satellite tuning UI that makes editing channels impossible... A pig to use anyway and one which randomly re-adds deleted channels and deletes wanted ones. - NOT YET EVALUATED 3) 'Favourites' set up on satellite channels is unreliable; press guide and the channel you're watching will probably be deleted from the list! - NOT YET FULLY EVALUATED - but appears to still be a problem 4) ARC output is hit-and-miss as to what it works with; possibly even 'dangerous' as we now suspect it of having 'cooked' the HDMI board of a receiver it was connected to. - NOT YET EVALUATED; don't intend to test this further! 5) Using optical out - and outputting anything other than PCM from an HDMI input - causes lip-sync issues; picture leads the sound. There is no form of adjustment for this. And the problem means the set cannot be used as the switcher in a home-cinema system; not unless you're prepared to do without the surround modes you paid good money for your audio system to support. - NO IMPROVEMENT 6) No DISEQC control; even though the set is 'supposed' to provide it! - NO IMPROVEMENT 7) UI is just nuts! - Basically incompetent... Too many steps to switch inputs, switching to guide flashes up the guide for a second, screen goes black, guide re-appears... Coming back causes the screen to go black for two-seconds before the picture re-appears... You can't quickly flip the guide while watching a programme without really disturbing the thread of what you're watching... Can't turn OFF the stupid 'recommendations' rubbish; even if the set's not connected to a network ( i.e. you have to scroll past a load of rubbish to get to BASIC functions) - The settings menus require too many steps to get in an out of! Can't customise the useless 'discover' button (which is in the wrong place anyway) to do anything useful... - NO CHANGE! 😎 4K support - out of interest I tuned it to Fransat to see their 4K demo; it produces a blank screen! And there is no facility to adjust the relevant parameters to view the signal even thought he set should be capable of receiving it! - doesn't bode well for future 4K broadcasts! - NO CHANGE! All-in-all this update was a waste of time; Sony STILL haven't got even the basic functions of the set working! ________________________ Matt Quinn, Managing Director, The Caledonian Television Company Ltd --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus

Nothing fixed, and possibly something else broke! On Retuning the Astra Satellite TWO UHD demos from Astra now appear; as the set gives no transponder details I can't tell if they're real or 'phantoms'. Switching from one to the other locks the set up! ________________________ Matt Quinn, Managing Director, The Caledonian Television Company Ltd --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus

Good afternoon all As you are all aware, the ability to log into into these forums via 'My Sony' has been disabled. Please let it be known that these forums were NOT taken down on purpose and/or that nobody has been banned. Unfortuately like all forms of equipment, hardware can fail. This is one of those cases. Once the data has been restored, logging in will then be enabled. Hopefully this explains things a little. Thank You Quinnicus.

Oddly enough 'SonySQE' - Or is it our 'alleged fellow-traveller' Quinnicus? ---- Oh! "hardware can fail" can it? Tell us about it! - We're all here BECAUSE the hardware we bought with hard-earned cash has been a failure right out of the box! - That a huge multi-national with massive resources can't restore a simple forum in fairly short-time seems EXTREMELY unlikely these days... Just as it's very convenient this forum should 'fail' at this particular time... Equally curious are the fact that several of my posts have 'bounced' for 'BS' reasons and the previous inescapable allegations from others of censorship... - Did I mention the last 'update' left us no further forward? I can only refer you then to my previous comment to the effect that none of us disgruntled customers sailed up the Clyde on a Banana Skin!!! --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus
