2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

Caledonian_TV you are actually right... first of all, everything should run on cloud now, but... the thing is that we managed to get someone involved because of the login issue but nothing to do with our tvs... ...

I got another Firmware Update today here in the UK.:smileyhappy:

My Android System identifies itself as : 5.1.1:smileythumbsup:

And its now : Build / SVP4KDTV15_EU:smileywink:

I'm looking forward to digging around in my hopefully much more stable system.:smileycool:

Plus I'm not going to give up trying to install Android 6 when I can get a full image.

But, as of so far I still cant get it to install 3rd Party App's, or App Stores.:smileyztele:

Do enjoy Android though.:smileyarrow:

Thank you Sony, I will reply back with anything I notice before Christmass.:smileyplus:

Kind regards

Richard

The response seems to be from Sony directly - but is signed Quinnicus! - Seems odd to me. ---- Cloud or no cloud; I don't really believe Sony are running their forum off an old 486 in somebody's back bedroom under the stewardship of a 14-year-old! - And anything better than that should be recoverable in a few hours! - Mind you; if the coding behind these sets is anything to go by.. --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus

There is only so much more a person can take, I'm getting my box down from the loft, damaged box or not they can have it back as it seems the new FW in others is not working at all, what's the point in trying if others say it does not work? Got a reply to my official compliant, they said to try the new firmware as this will sort out the issues I am having, I'm too scared to do it now in case it screws it up even more and I cant return it to Curry's out of the 30 day period, they will just take it away to "Repair" and I wont see it this side of Xmas, I don't intend to watch TV on my smaller TV but might just have too.. I read on another post that they have taken away a TV and are replacing the motherboard, why if its a software issue? Rubbish, its probably the same board and if its not I want the new board if it works! This is a ridiculous situation to be in and Sony should hang it head in shame or just close down altogether as by the time I have finished everyone will know about their crap TV's

Hello All

As I can log back into the forums now, I think it might be best to explain something.  You might have seen a post that was made by me under a different account (a Sony account).  This was quite by accident, and I'll explain:

I do have contact with Sony at times and it was requested that if I could make a post to the forums to explain the current state of play then could I do so.  I dont generally subscribe to threads, as my inbox would be flooded with Sony Notifications.  Apon searching my inbox, I found a notification for this thread that I now know was internal.  So hence I replied and a post was made to this forums.  A pure simply user error on my part im afraid.

Appologies to all concerned if you were confused by this.  Also, to be clear - I do not work for Sony.

Hopefully this explains things.

Thank you

(from an embarrased Quinnicus)

I'm grateful to be able to log in at last and also very pleased to be able to say, I have now finally packed my TV set back its box as its soon on its way to John Lewis.  In the light of this unfortunate experience, I'm more than ever thankful for deciding to pay just that little bit extra than the cheapest in the market place only 6 weeks ago and so be able to do it.  LIfe's really far too short to fiddling in vain with this TV for the foreseeable future.  My sincere commiserations go to those who are left struggling with Sony's Firmware Updates.  Finally may I also thank those replied to my concerns, as they they most certainly helped me to concede in the end that 'enough was enough'.  I may well be still trying to 'fix it' because naturally I don't like being defeated by 'a flaky bit' of technology.
