2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

@Quninnicus,

Thanks for posting this information even if it was in error! I spent almost 2 days trying to login, at least I now know why. No doubt you've saved lots of wasted calls to support.

Agreed, spent most of my working life in IT, 24 hours max to restore, in fact should have been fail safe. Sent from my iPad

Incidentally, if anyone was interested, I'm replacing the Sony Bravia with a Samsung eu48JU6500, that comes with 5 year warranty and same '90 day buyer's promise' from John Lewis, so will wait and see how it pans out.

I wrote to Currys asking for a refund for my Sony BRAVIA KDL50W809CBU under Sale of Goods Act 1979 due to lack of HDD recording.

They responded as follows:

We have looked into the advertising of this television and the HDD feature was not listed online for this television.  This is an issue that you will have to take up with Sony if their advertising states different. We will not be able to refund this product as it is not faulty.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us. I apologise for any disappointment caused.

On their website under Product Information, under 'More from Sony' it clearly shows a box with the following text:

Turn your TV into a digital recorder: USB HDD REC

Store your favourite TV shows on an external USB hard disk drive to enjoy whenever you want. USB HDD REC allows one-touch and timer recording of a digital broadcast onto any USB HDD device up to 2TB in capacity. While viewing the show, simply press REC to start recording, which will automatically stop at the end of the programme.

Now to me, that is clearly misleading information given what we know.  I called them up and pointed them to this text, and and they said that was content provided by Sony and that they had no responsibility for it.

I asked "where does it say that on this webpage or under your T&Cs".

They directed me to this under 'General' claiming it was "a link":

These terms and conditions only cover the Currys website. Any other websites to which you link from this site are governed by their own terms and conditions. We accept no responsibility or liability for the content or operation of websites which are not under our control. We are required by law to tell you that sales can be concluded in English only and that no public filing requirements apply. We acknowledge we have a legal duty to supply goods that are in conformity with a contract.

Honestly, you couldnt make it up!! This content is clearly ON THEIR WEBSITE under Product Information for said product, with no disclaimer that it may be incorrect. It is presented there AS FACT in my opinion.

Anyway, has anyone managed to get a return or refund from them?

TV was purchased early September in-store.

Ask for a complete written explanation, saying it's for your small claims submission

Just updated the firmware on my 8509C.

Now YouView has completely disappeared (back to the old style guide) and All4 and ITV Player have also gone?

It's running software version PKG2.647.0052EUB (is this what other people have after the latest update?)

In the UK (London) so can't understand why all of the above have disappeared...

Hi all, newbie here.

I am reading with alarm all the issues detailed on this thread, which i can fully relate to. My KDL-50W805C had a firmware update yesterday (UK) that REMOVED YouView. Has this happened to anyone else? The sofware version I appear to have been left with is SVPDTV15_EU-user 5.1.1 and PKG2.647.0052EUA

What the hell is going on? Have Sony dropped YouView or something? If so, it's a breach of contract as I based my purchase decision on the availability of this (which was delayed by months anyway). Pretty shocking behaviour by Sony if this is the case.

Please help!!!!

My KDL-50W805C appears to have updated perfectly.

For the people who loose YouView (UK) after updating the firmware.  I seen this reported on the AVForums yesterday, apon asking did they live in the UK, with a UK based IP address, the response was that they were using another proxy server or DNS outside the UK.

The firmware version should be: PKG2.645.0052EUA

I have updated my TV and all is working fine.  I found it slightly sluggish after the update, but once doing a complete reboot, all is responsive again

@spook63 I've just done the latest FW update & youview is still available! It's a slightly different build number to the FW you stated. Anyway I'll see how it goes... I disbled youview some time ago as it's not the full youview like you get with a Humax or Huawei box.

I updated the firmware today & I have it as;

SVP4KTV15_EU user5.1.1 LMY48E.S1432.645

Software Version; PKG2.6450052EUB
