I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!
1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435
2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.
3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360
4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.
As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.
Post of the day - of all the things not to buy a Sony TV...
was wondering if anyone knew how to stop tv automatically going to av input when you switch it on?
For those who have decided to return their Sony TV's to their respective retailers, may I offer a word of caution. In haste to be rid of this 'troublesome set' it may be easy to forget that all used Smart TV's retain certain personal user details, such as Location, IP Address, Proper name, Usernames, Email addresses, Account details and related account Passwords.
So before I packed my TV up, I decided it first very important to permanently remove all personal details from my TV's various memory locations. Unfortunately it was not immediately obvious how to do, what should have been a simple exercise. Unfortunately several 'On-line' explanations and other descriptions on Youtube, didn't apply or relate to my particular 2015 model.
The process did not appear under variously worded 'Help' Searches and neither my Retailer's Technical Support team, nor inititially Sony's technical staff were able to assist. However, after 2 hours a technician from Sony did call me back with a 'Step by Step' guide. So if anyone is interested, I have created a short video of the process, entitled: "Sony Bravia 2015 Factory Setup" searchable on Youtube. I am not sure if I am allowed include a direct link to it here, not wishing to breach current T&C's on this blog. So I will await some response from Moderator before adding it.
In a wish to ensure that the method had effectively erased all my personal data completely I afterwards carried out an Initial Factory Setup and was asked for new Setup Password. Sony advised inputting as default '9999' when prompted. I hope it helps.

My point is make the time because in the long run you will save time with constant rebooting and factory resetting and posting comments on here- then enjoy your purchase and watch a tv as it is meant to be watched, sony in the 80s/90s with trintron & profeel monitors were a top brand but not now they are s..t
I'll agree wholeheartedly with your closing comment Andy... But ultimately Sony can either ping over an update that works or Curry's can come and get the pile of bile... I'm not emptying out a van, driving it 80 miles, putting my back out leaving the family without a telly in the main room for days etc etc etc... But I do want to see these clowns at Sony 'feet to the fire'...
When I think of the money I've spent with them over the years...
The really sad thing is that when the set IS working the picture is pretty close to what you'd expect from a half-decent professional floor monitor...

A guess... There is a hotel mode' buried in it somewhere. I know I saw one; but it is buried and I can't recall just where exactly.
This would switch the set to start up on a hotel's internal cable system.
@and3ys wrote:Not sure if this will help anyone, but I spoke to Sony support uk over the phone today and explained how outrageous it is that we as customers are expected to wait till March 16 for a basic function that was advertised working when sold to me! The representative promised me that the hdd record and pip would be available on the 24th December! I explained to him that the website had stated March 16 but he said that was a timescale for other functions and updates they were working on! Not sure how true this was or if he was just trying to fob me off!
I hope this is true. However in my e-mail from them (Sony) that I received on 8th December I was told this:
"
Thank you for your recent email.
In regards to your query,we can confirm that regrettably you cannot connect a bluetooth headset to your television as it is not compatible.
In regards to the HDD recording, we are aware that certain features or services for our new TVs models are not available yet or functioning as intended and sincerely apologies for not meeting these deadlines. We would like to clarify the status of these highly anticipated features.
As for HDD recording (REC), we are also currently refining this function. We aim to have this function available before 31st of March. However, due to the technical complexity implementing this feature, the final release date(s) stipulated on our support site may be subject to change."
I and many, many others can only hope that it is well before the 31st March

Ah, now there is a setting for this somewhere. I found accidentaly the other day while going through the various options and settings. You can set the tv to start in whatever mode you wish. I just cannot remember where I found it... sorry.

Certain broadband providers (most if not all will eventually) block the illegal streaming sites. I believe in know the one (or one of them) that you mention. One way is through the apps part while another is using the built in Opera browser. Obviously I will not give any further details No, I do not use them.
It's not going to come is it?
It's been pushed back time and again with the caveat of 'however, due to the technical complexity.......'
I don't think we're going to get it. My opinion.
