2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

It's not going to come is it?

It's been pushed back time and again with the caveat of 'however,  due to the technical complexity.......'

I don't think we're going to get it. My opinion.

No I don't think it is...

Technical complexity?  Hands up who's had a hard disc recorder for YEARS!   - It's not like they're  developing a large hadron collider based app that actually beams you back in time to when the programme was originally shown or anything!

For people with lip sync issues, I have a solution at least for my all sony setup.

Sony 55X850C

Sony 1050 AV Receiver

All connected via HDMI

For all HDMI connections set the audio delay to 80ms and for ARC ( TV on my receiver ) set it to HDMI auto. The second one solved all my Netflix and Amazon lip sync issues unless of course Sony break it later lol!

I reckon Sony owe compensation to all of us who bought these TVs based on what we now know to be their egregious misrepresentation of the current and future technical capabilities of their product.

Where are you setting the audio delay?  - Not sure it would help me since the picture is leading the sound; but I'd be interested to know.  - Auto 2 outputs PCM unless the relevant input has surround coding; not sure if these online services will be sending the 'full nine yards' in terms of audio...

I'd love to take my set back to the store, except I live 2 hours away from the nearest one, and 4 hours from the one I purchased from. I'm happy to drop it off if return accepted but I'd rather get it sorted out first via email/phone.

This firmware seems no better at all. It rebooted itself as I powered on this morning, so I just need to accept this as standard? Also I have a problem with selecting channels. If I dial a channel number e.g. 101 I would expect it to change to that channel, but half the time it only brings the youview info banner. Occasionally it will change so it would appear to be a big rather than poor design..

@Tarpii I noted the reboot on first start up in the morning after the update also. The channel selection oddity I think was there before the update and I think is by design. This is how I think it works...

If you key in the channel number while YouView banner is showing the the banner change to the channel keyed in the you press OK to select it, it gives you a chance to see what is on. However, if you key in the channel with no YouView showing then it switches to the channel keyed.

Hope this helps

Product is is Sony 2015 KDL 43W805C Android TV, UK Model with YouView, purchased Sept 2015.

Just for the record and benefit of others, because the TV's effectively no longer my problem.  I finally did install the latest Update and was able to 'provisionally' check the performance of my KD49X8305CBU.  I had previously ignored prompts to update, but did eventually concede, out of interest in view of the many problems related by others here.   My set installed the Update itself whilst in 'standby' mode and I think, probably took about 40 mins to complete and return to 'Standby'.  A cursory check revealed that it now appears to have improved previously detected 'lipsync' issues when viewing TV programs, but it did not overcome the total loss of sound when my Humax HDR and Sony Soundbar were connected at the same time.  I haven't had time to do anymore checks as I'm expecting it to be collected by John Lewis today.
