I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!
1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435
2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.
3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360
4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.
As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.
Hi Guys
Questions asked about PIP/PAP picture.
Corresponding PC input signal
(Resolution, Horizontal frequency/Vertical frequency)
640 x 480, 31.5 kHz/60 Hz
800 x 600, 37.9 kHz/60 Hz
1024 x 768, 48.4 kHz/60 Hz
1280 x 1024, 64.0 kHz/60 Hz (2K Full HD models or 4K models only)
1600 x 900, 56.0 kHz/60 Hz (2K Full HD models or 4K models only)
1920 x 1080, 67.5 kHz/60 Hz (2K Full HD models or 4K models only)*
3840 x 2160, 67.4 kHz/30 Hz (4K models only)
* The 1080p timing, when applied to the HDMI input, will be treated as a video timing and not a PC timing. This will affect the [Display] settings. To view PC content, set [Wide mode] to [Full], and [Display area] to [Full pixel] (2K models) or [+1] (4K models). ([Display area] is configurable only when [Auto display area] is set to [Off].)
Im happy to provide constructive feedback from you guys to Sony on features requested and additions you would like to make. Please bullet point them for ease of reading
@andipr I fear you are correct, not happy if this is the case. Why the option list is fully populated when you can only use Off Air is wrong. It doesn't help that there are no instructions as far as I can find that tell you how to use PAP. It makes a mockery of PAP if you only have Sky TV as your only source of off air programmes. This is just as 'well implemented' as the fact that you have to disable YouView to use HDD. We have been badly let down if these restrictions are not rectified. I will say the HDD record facility does seem to work well, but it would be good if you could Pause / rewind live tv, like I coould on my 2009 Panasonic, which this set replaced.
If it helps others, the HDD used with my Panasonic could not be recognised, by the TV until I did a quick re-format on a PC.
BTW, re: the PAP.. it was described as PIP/PAP as far as I know You cannot get Picture in Picture only Picture AND Picture.
Just to clarify -
PiP is only if the input source is a PC via HDMI
@Quinnicus
I'm sure that the online manual "used" to say that one could pause and rewind live tv? Which was why I bought the tv. If anyone knows how to use that archive website, could you check it out for me please. Ta
Cheers @Anonymous.
WOW
This thread is enormous,
I have one of these beautifully rubbish TV's, I'm just about able to keep it ticking along (sluggishly) by resetting it once a week and not signing into google or downloading ot using any apps such as Youview...
I've tried to get help from Sony's support but so far they seem to have ignored absolutely everything I've said to them in many emails and carry on with a stupid checklist.... the latest has been asking about a internet performance...
I don't recall complaining about buffering or streaming issues... I recall complaining about the inability to change the volume on my TV as it consistently crashes.... amonst many other things...
One way or another I will get a refund for this TV.... currently it looks like I might need to go down a legal route to do so though.
Hiya, it was a web page via the sony support website, something like user manal or guide, can't quite remember as it's taken sooooo long for the hdd to be implemented. my tv is a KDL43W755C and im guessing it was around August. Thanks adyjay.
Regards. Alex
@mk1.golf.1983 @adyjay33 It was quoted in this Press Release from Sony. Towards the end of the document in the Section 'About Youview' . Still live on Sony.co.uk.
My @ thing doesn't seem to be working! @frogger38, the way I read that statement is original youview has all these features and the sony app doesn't? sure I read it on the online manual thing?
Can anyone advise me how to set up my hdd for hdd recording please?
I have a 500gb drive partitioned to 300/200gb the first partion (A 300gb) I have movies and photos, the second partition (B 200gb) is blank awaiting the tv's hdd functions.
When I go to set up the tv's hdd function it says it wants to delete everything with no mention of the two partitions?
