Bravia KD49XH8505 Intermittent problems with connection to sound system

My TV uses an old Sony 5.1 Home Cinema system rather than internal speakers.  It’s pre ARC so using the optical cable between the TV and sound system.

In general it works pretty well but every 3 or 4 days when I turn it on no sound comes out of the Home Cinema system, which indicates the signal from the TV is the problem.

Forcing the TV to restart from the remote fixes the problem, once the problem occurs it happens for all inputs Sky, XBox, etc...

Any thoughts on what to try to fix this?

When you say no sound from the Home Cinema System, does that mean no sound at all? Or does the sound come out from the TV speakers instead?

I'd recommend making sure that both the TV and system are up to date as well.

I can find the TV update since you shared the model.

No sound from the TV speakers as TV Sound is set to Audio System.

If I flip it back to speakers I get sound, but nothing will come out of the Audio System until I restart the TV.

TV is up up to date with software.

Can you share the model of the cinema system with us and make sure that it is also up to date?

The system is a Sony HT-IS100 I don’t think it has any software update option.

Did you happen to try the system with a different TV or the TV with a different system?

If you haven't or it isn't possible, I'd recommend resetting both to factory settings and try connecting them again, ideally with nothing else connected.

The system has been working for 10+ years with the old TV.

Happened again this morning, first time for a couple of weeks, TV reset fixed it.  Feels like a software bug in the TV linked to optical out, it’s a bit annoying but easily resolved.

@NovemberBravo

Have you tried power cycling, or resetting, the sound system instead when this happens?

it takes two to tango......

My favourite bedtime reading is a Sony product manual…

Yes, it’s only the TV reset that has any impact.

Hi

You haven't confirmed if a full factory reset has been attempted. This could be a solution for most software issues.
