Release protection USB HDD

I have inadvertently protected a recording from Freeview on my HDD connected to the REC USB of my Sony XE90 65" TV..
When trying to delete the recording I get the message 'To delete, release the protection first' but I cannot find a way to do this.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi @IanTomBower

I don't use YouView (it is disabled) so it may be different for you. [On Your Remote]

1. Display the Recorded Title List. In my case [Guide] move left and select Recorded Title List.

2. Highlight the protected recordings and then press [Action Menu]

3. Move down to Protect and select it.

4. Tick or Untick the recordings you want to Protect or Unprotect.

5. Make sure you select Set to save your changes.

That’s OK, @LightFoot , @IanTomBower said Freeview, not YouView,

Famously, you anyway can’t record on the YouView on these TVs.

It's Freeview and the recording is already protected.
I'm asking how to unprotect it as it won't let me.
I'll give it another try when the other half has finished watching Four In A Bed.
Thank you.

Hi @royabrown2   You do know that YouView uses Freeview for live terrestrial programming

Hi @IanTomBower   Please follow my instructions to unprotected your recording. Please let us know what is missing and at what stage it fails.

Thanks. That did the trick.
I didn't find it intuitive.

Kind of, yes. But YouView can’t use the word ‘Freeview’ in connection with anything they provide, because they don’t meet the Freeview standards.

That’s because YouView was so innovative when it came out that it needed to do a few things that would prevent it ever getting Freeview certification.

However, in the case above it was very clear that @IanTomBower must have been operating on the pure Freeview side of his set, with YouView disabled, as he was talking about recordings; so my remarks were based on the major record/can’t record disparity between the Freeview and YouView sides of these sets, rather than the microscope/oscilloscope/X-Acto knife* difference between how YouView bring you programmes and how Freeview do it.

Hi @IanTomBower

I have to agree, personnally I don't use that facility (I use Sky Q) but I connected a Sony HHD to my KD-55XE9305 out of curiousity to see what it did. I found it straight away because there is a hint displayed bottom left on the screen "The ACTION MENU button: Delete or sort titles, etc.". Protect coming under "etc.".

As I have never used it @royabrown2  that is the reason I didn't know it was not available with YouView.

Happy to see it is all sorted
