xf90 youtube app not auto selecting best res.

Whenever i play a youtube vid recently im finding it is playing in a low resolution.

When i go to the settings in the app, 720 and 1080 are usually available but the vid is

highlighted as playing in a low res., even if 'Auto' is selected.

As soon as i manually select a higher res it plays fine.

Is this a known bug?

never mind,

clearing the data/cache, and removing/reinstalling app updates fixed it.

@sparkes81 if you search for 4k hdr on youtube does it play ok. Mine will play for 10 - 20 secs then I get a black screen but sound continues.

Does the same on Netflix if I search for 4k hdr. Getting annoyed with it now.

I've noticed your problem as well if I select a 4k video it says hd. Uninstalled updates and that fixed that issue it selects the 4k.

Hi,

yeah 4k plays fine from youtube app after doing the: 'clearing the data/cache, and removing/reinstalling app updates' thing.

I did suspect otherwise after looking in the stats for nerds section though.

In mine I saw that the Current/Optimal Res was 3840x2160@30 / 3840x2160@30.

I was hoping for 60fps.

It turns out only some 4k vids are 60fps on youtube, plus you need a decent internet connection.

I think the app throttles your res and fps depending on what it determins your internet speed is.

Because after a short while it then jumped to 3840x2160@60 / 3840x2160@60 and I was happy.

Netflix works well for me. Even the 'Dobly Vision' thing works now too. lol.

Although ive never really had a problem with Netflix.

Are you sure it isnt your internet connection?

have you checked your; firewall, DNS and line through put?

I changed my primary and secondary dns to cloudflairs 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 in my router and tv and it made a big difference for me.

how are you connecting the tv to the net? Its best to use an ethernet cable.

have you assigned and set a static ip for the tv in your router?

have you set that ip as the static one in the tv settings?

These are good things for you to check, because your problems are affecting more than just one app,

its likely something else is at fault here.

seems to be any video with hdr? Watched 4k fine on netfilx apart from one on netflix a 4k hdr fire video. But hdr on youtube is hit and miss. Could be my internet as im only wifi at the minute.

Havent a clue about setting static ip etc???

I Cast 4k hdr on youtube from phone and there was no problems at all apart from it never auto selects colour space bt2020.

Also if it was my internet surly it wouldn't  just turn my screen black and sound continue??? It would buffer/stutter. Not just give a black screen

If you can cast a 4k vid from a phone to the tv via wifi then its likely there is no issue with your tv or your router.

Im going to go out on a limb and say its most likely your internet speed.

What speeds does speedtest.net return?

Not sure. Could be Sony deciding that a black screen is better than a buffering/stuttering screen and so

programed it that way.

Getting 35mbps on Wi-Fi from tv. I'll have to try an Ethernet cable to router.

I've noticed it seems to be videos played at 60fps. All other 4k videos are fine.

I've emailed sony see what they say.
