Share your experience!
Hi all,
Our Sony Marekting Communications team is interested in gathering some data around the experiences and needs of the Digital Entertainment Junkie. (DEJ is a person who likes to creatively create and output Music, Movies, Games, Apps, etc... anything digitally).
Here are a couple of questions we would like your thoughts on so let's get this discussions started
-----
If you enjoy creating and sharing content online or developing events or installations/exhibitions, what sort of things would like more of? Please see list below:
Background
We would like to know which of these, or anything else you suggest, would help meet your needs and improve your output.
Identified needs
- Access to advice; if so what type of advice? (eg production planning, set design, 3D sound design)
- Opportunity to present your work to experts in the entertainment industry (eg film director, head of lighting)
- Targeted distribution instead to supplement You Tube for example
- Guidance on how to use software/hardware
- Tips on how to make better use of your time when creating materials (eg editing techniques)
- Funding
- Loan of equipment
- Coaching
-----
We will collect your feedback in 1 week and share it with the corresponding Marekting teams.
Thanks as usual,
Nico

This is a very cool idea and one that I am interested in on a personal as well as professional level.
For me it is all about getting your work seen. To this end I would like support/guidance in this area, on a platform that was supported both technically (so I don’t have to worry about it) as well as being promoted both to the public and within the industry.
Any advice from those have been there and done it always helps, especially when it comes to what to do once you have the finished product.
Hopefully we will see a bucket load of feedback on this, as it’s a really positive idea and one that will hopefully lead to some really good content getting out there.

I think this is a great idea. The two main areas which stand out which could shed a lot of light for the "DEJ's" would be the Imaging items (primary example would be the NEX-7 and more actually the new Zeiss lens for it) since I know a lot of forums are really waiting impatiently on its launch (I have three friends waiting to hear back about this still before they pre-order) and then we have the Tablet. In terms of production for the Tablet, the biggest thing missing in my opinion for Android as a whole is music product applications. There are more than a dozen purchase worthy applications on iOS and are quick and easy to use, groups like Gorillaz for example produced an entire album using the iPad since the music applications were available. Since we have Sony Creative Software, im pretty sure we could bring something new for Android users, especially the Sony Tablet market maybe aided further by the price drop.
Getting a copy of a lens or product may be tricky but giving it to set users on trial in my opinion could really be a step forward. Most review companies have very little communication with end users if any other questions arise after a review has been done but having some way of establishing the user/review to be placed here means that both the reviewer and Sony can see what additional questions are raised. Maybe even arrange like a day out around London as a Facebook event where willing experts are given new products and then are joined by Sony fans to either come see them, try them out whilst seeing the city? This seems to be lacking since a lot of stores tend to have items locked away for people to stare at or have to order items so does not raise as much interest.
There is a lot of advice out there but difficult to find something to suit the everyday user. I personally think that if there was some sort of "chat with a forum expert" (if others are willing) about a certain product or feature for example. A lot of the experts I have found do manage to break things down well for other users but sometimes it raises other questions which may get left unanswered.
As Lee mentioned, I think a showcase section possibly broken down into different sections such as NEX/NEX-VG, Alpha, DSC etc would be an idea since a lot of the content does not end up on the forum or anywhere Sony related. The majority of people will post their photos on Flickr, Facebook etc but if we had some sort of incentive to encourage more users (possibly through the promotion via Facebook) for users to submit their images but mainly video if we had a dedicated section. From sitting here in sales, we have had a lot of people showing interest in the new NEX-VG20E but hard to nail pre-orders since there is little user info available online and video content made specifically with it. The "photography on the net" forum has a thread dedicated to each lens that Canon makes and it really helps to make you think about buying a certain product or not.
That does seem more of a rant than anything else, sorry. I think there are just a "few" ideas floating around in my head right now.
