I have a sony giga juke. It will not turn on using the remote - it is showing a blue flashing light as if it is in standby but the controls on the unit or the remote will not work. This happended before and I had to turn it off at the mains. Has anyone had this problem.

I can confirm that I am on V1.01 of the software and my unit is now working correctly (although as a number of other people have also noticed , it states that it is not connected to the internet when it obviously is as it access Gracenote properly for new CDs not in the built in database).
I only have one extender box but it can see and play music off the main unit, which I believe is what yours currently can't do?
I would hazard a guess that it boils down to a setting somewhere that you changed in the last few months whilst trying things out which is now preventing the 2 units from talking to each other? Although I think a factory reset it a bit of a hammer to crack a nut approach.
Do you have anything else which is DNLA compliant on your home network (there are some free apps for android and iphone if all else fails) this should allow you to determine if it is the main unit or the extender at fault. Actually you can use the main unit itself to find this out as it can act as a server and a client, I can't remember the menu layout at the moment but I will check this evening and post the instructions then.
Have you tried resetting the extender, this would certainly be less painful that resetting the main unit to start with, the IP address of the main unit will certainly have change in the last few months so it might just need to find it again (mine has always been a bit dodgy and needed reconnecting once in a while, even before black September)?
How are you connecting them both to your home network? Are you using the gizmo that came with the kit that plugs into your router, or are you connected directly to the router, and are you wireless or wired?
Hi spoysers,
I am very limited in tech capacities.I can follow books but eyesight is shot so takes a while to cross reference and backlit screens aren't good ( really only got sight in one eye) so it all takes me a hell of a time!!
I use the supplied sony router which is connected to my netgear router. The dongle is attached to my giga and it was all set up to work (which it did) wirelessly.
we too had a bit of trouble in this new house with the wireless reach of the remote box.
My ADSL and the routers are in one room the main giga in another (no adsl in that room and no way to) and my remote unit in another.
I have no doubt that in all the mucking around that I had to do to the thing when I was on the phone to 'customer services' something has bandy, I am in no way tech enough to know how to play with the thing tho, so any advice you can give before I do .
complete reset would be welcome.
I have though gone through the procedure for setting up the wireless home network if that is what you mean? as did unplug the sony router.
I am getting royally sick with how this is slowly taking over my life tho.
In future I am going to stick to low tech no fuss gadgets no matter how all singing all dancing they sound and never again sony.
Just got a panasonic tv actually, originally wanted a sony but went for the panansonic.
In a side note to sony:
Had some table linen (£166 worth) was 18months old from M&S and for some reason despite washing in the usual way 1 napkin ran its colour and wrecked the lot. Took it back (with receipt), the customer service lady rang head office, and I got a full refund as they were aware there was an issue with it already. THATS CUSTOMER SERVICE

Mine is now working fine, I'm happy again!! Don't ask me what software mine is on, I have no idea how to find out!!
Also, I did nothing to it, it just corrected itself.

From the main screen (the one with the 9 icons) select Home Network (top left).
This may take quite a while, but will eventually should take you to a screen with all the DNLA/uPNP capable devices on your network.
Once on this screen press back on the remote a few times to ensure you are on the first page of this option.
You should see "Available HOME NETWORK Server" on the screen, followed by a list of servers, the one you are interested in is the one called NAS-S55HDE, select this one and you should then be able to browse the music on the Gigajuke the same as if you were on an extender unit.
What you are actually doing here is accessing the music on your main Gigajuke unit but via your network not directly, if this works then it means you main unit is configured correctly and that the problem must be at the extender unit end.
Try that first and let us know how you get on.
Thanks for the tip spoysers, will try that tom when have more time and let you know what the outcome is.
Shame that this advice isn't coming form Sony , but hurrah for people power !!
ok just done that and as you said all there present and correct.
what next ?
ooh getting excited now !!

The line is case sensitive, did you definately type in it correctly (including the colons, and the capital M and S)?
eg
http://192.168.1.56:64321/MediaServer.xml
Also don't type in the leading zeros - VERY IMPORTANT
Otherwise it sounds like you Gigajuke might not be on your network (mine used to have a habit of connecting to the neighbours unsecure network), especially if it isn't appearing on your computer when it used to! Do you live in a residential area? It will make sense to refresh the connection of the main unit onto your network.
Can you confirm what the IP address was, and what you typed into the browser?
Now, assuming you are using windows, select Run from the start menu, or press the windows button, (the one next to the left Alt key) and R at the same time), you will get a window pop up, type cmd in the box and hit 'OK', this should open a black window. In here type ping 192.168.XXX.YYY (again enter your numbers, no leading zeros) and let me know what happens.
Now on your extender, press the 'Settings' button on the unit itself, then select "Server Setting", select "Server Auto connect", then select Off, this means it will now ask you what server to connect to rather than connecting automatically (once everything is fixed you can go back and change this back to on)
This should then take you to a screen with "HOME NETWORK" at the top, one of the menu items will be "Update Info", select that, this should then refresh the list, is the NAS-S55HDE now in the list? If so select it and see what happens. Also does the NAS-S55HDE have an exclamation mark next to it?
If it is in the list but doesn't work then it is best to delete it from the extender, and get it to reconnect, this way you will know the extender can see the main unit. To do this press 'Settings' button again, select Server Setting, then select Server delete, select the NAS-S55HDE, then select OK. If it lets you do this this will also confirm that they weren't connected as you can only delete ones that the unit can no longer see.
If you get to this point, I would suggest removing the Sony router from the equation by connecting both units directly to your router (wirelessly of course), I can explain if necessary (although probably best to do that via PM rather than hogging this forum!)
Keep it "in Forum" guys, it may help others and better for the community to update this post as Sony dont!
