iPlayer on BDP-S185 will not respond properly to remote control?

As described above, I'm having no joy with the iPlayer on my new S-185 (one of the main reasons I bought it). Using the arrow buttons on the remote to navigate the iPlayer interface results in completely random operation. It simply will not let you select certain menus - you can try, but it will just flicker and select a completely different menu entirely. I simply cannot access any of the services I want.

I think other users have had similar issues with different Sony Blu-Ray models and had success by resetting the hardware to factory setting etc. I have done all this and ensured that I have the most up to date firmware. Still no joy... has anyone got any ideas??

I have two of these, one bought from Tesco and the other from Amazon.  Both units have the same issues with BBC iplayer as others have described - i.e. when I move and select a pink highlighted items in the iplayer menu, I am taken to the wrong item - usually the previous one on the list.  Same thing for the programme selection - i.e. scrolling down and then selecting a pink highlighted programme will bring up the previous one.  Also, searches are impossible - bringing up the search menu where you highlight letters doesn't work - only random letters are selectable; scrolling skips several in the list for no apparent reason. Same thing for channel selection - i.e. selection box doesn't move predictably over the BBC channel boxes, when one is highlighted (e.g. BBC two) and is selected, I am taken to BBC one.  It's maddening and frustrating.

This is an iplayer-specific issue.  Menus work fine on all other VOD services (e.g. 5 OD, mubi, etc).

The latest updates have been applied (as of 22/01/2012), and I've tried factory resetting everything after updating; the problem remains.  To me this appears to be a flaky firmware issue?

Any more news on this yet?  It's driving me crazy - I efectively have a non-functional iplayer on both my BDP-S185's.  Is it possible to roll back to earlier more stable firmware, and if so, how???  If not advised, when might a firmware release be forthcoming?

I bought one last Sunday, the unit downloaded the latest firmware and I am seeing the same issues - makes BBC iPlayer largely unusable.

Any news on when a firmware update will be made available for the BDP-S185 ?  otherwise I am probably going to return the unit for refund.

Any further news on this? I've had my BDP-S185 for about 6 months, firmware update last week & now iPlayer freezes the entire unit. I have to unplug at the mains just to get it to respond to any buttons both on the remote & the unit itself.

Trying other channels like Sky news seems ok.

I bought this player (S185) from Amazon on Thursday and am having the same issues with iPlayer - it just completely freezes up the player.

When I got the player I immediately upgraded to the latest firmware and tried iPlayer - initially I got the menus but couldn't get anything to play.

Now when I select the menu option for iPlayer the whole device just freezes and has to be unplugged to get any sort of control back.

All other options work - Sky news, love film etc, and they report my download speed as 25.1Mbps, so its not a network bandwidth issue (using Eclipse FTTC which is equivalent of BT Infinity).

Can sony offer any assistance before this is returned as a faulty product?

I have exactly the same issue - all online TV services with BDP S185 DVD Player (Lovefilm, Channel5 etc.) play fine but iPlayer which of course is the one you want to work just freezes with the blue line graphic.

Upgraded to latest software and still the same. Rebooted several times and still the same.

Running via BT router and broadband directly to DVD player. Suffering the same issues as above.

Any help sony anyone?

I Cannot Play any BBCi content on Sony BluRay BDVE380

Most programmes report error 'Not Currently Available'. Those that are available freeze up box when selecting before the programme starts.

This has a wired connection to Sky Broadband router - IP 192.168.*.*   I have updated Firmware and done a full reset as suggested by Sony but problem persists.

I can play ALL other On Demand content without issues - eg Demand 5, Sky News, Eurosport.

I can access Internet pages via the Internet Browser on the player.

Where Play button appears and selected, programme doesn't load - player becomes unresponsive and requires powerdown.

Most programmes Play button doesn't appear - error message appears 'Unfortunately this Programme is not Currently Available. BBC iPlayer was Unable to Connect to a Required Server. Please Check Your Network Connection & Try Again'

Player can access all other Network content and I have rebooted both BluRay and broadband router.

Broadband is Sky - details are IP 192.168.*.*, Subnet 255.255.255.0, Gateway 192.168.*.*, Primary DNS 192.168.*.*, Proxy Server Not Used

I have raised this with Sky and BBC iPlayer teams as well as Sony but no-one seems to be able to help.

Doubt it's the Broadband as I can use all other services and BBCi Player is fine on my laptop!

Just found the following on AVFORUMS.COM posted by Jones The Steam (thank you!!) and it solved my problem!! Hopefully it works for some one else too. Good luck.

OK I just got it working.

You need to go to

Internet Browser > Options and set Javascript to Valid

The iPlayer app runs on the web browser that is on the S480 and once I saw that I guessed it must be due to my Javascript being disabled. I just tested a radio broadcast and an HD episode of Merlin and they both worked.
