STRDN1080 / Apple TV 4K and PS4 Pro issues

Hello

Firstly my setup

Sony Bravia 55XD9305 with ports 2+3 set to enhanced mode.

Sony STR1080DN connected to port 2 set to enhanced mode.

PS4 Pro + Sony X800 + Apple 4K TV

Cable from amp to TV on port 2 - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B015WV0WGS/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Cable from Apple, PS4 Pro and X800

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B078WDKSYQ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I know there are plenty of topics on the amp but I was hoping someone can help.

Before I bought the amp I was running the X800 and Ps4 Pro directly to ports 2+3 on the 9305.  No problems at all with full HDR / Ultra 4k on RGB and sound run through my old Pioneer SC-LX57.

I then bought the STR1080 so I could run the PS4 pro and X800 through the amp and attach the Apple TV 4K.

Simple in theory?

Well apparently not.

I attached the amp to the TV via the enhanced port two.

I duly plugged the PS4 pro into the Game HDMI, X800 into Blu Ray and Apple 4K into the SACD (as it can run Atmos).

So firstly the Apple 4k flatly refused to run at 4:4:4 chroma. Plugged it into the TV directly on port 3 and no issue.

Next the PS4 Pro.  It refused to run RGB and only ran YUV420 after having to reset it. Plugged into the TV directly and ran perfectly in RGB.

Finally the X800 just flatly refused to work at all.

So although I have 2.0b HDMI Ultra HD cable working perfectly directly from the PS4 / X800 there seems to be a problem with the STR1080.

Do you think its a problem with the cable?  I have been through the net and deep into the menus but I am baffled.  The HDMI 2.2 solution offered by the amp just isnt working and its deeply frustrating.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Gunboatdiplomacy68,

This is such a fully detailed post, I'm impressed!

You mentioned that " the Apple 4k flatly refused to run at 4:4:4 chroma ". Does that mean it runs on a different display mode? or does it not run at all?

Also, does the situation for each individual device change by simply changing the HDMI port of the amp used to connect it?

In general, it's always a good idea to make sure the receiver is running the latest firmware update available.

Well I fixed it and its either; 1. Failed HDMI 2. Port 2 is misbehaving. I have the PS4, Apple TV ( now at 4:4:4)and X800 all happily playing with the STR1080 which is connected to port 3. I am a regular updater so its most likely the cable. Happy day! Dom

Hi again Gunboatdiplomacy68

I'm glad to hear that!

Try swapping that cable out to see if it's the culprit.
