Hi
I own a PCG FR315 M and have lost the Bios Password
I called the Sony Support and they said that I have to send it in to recover the PW but that would take around 2-3 weeks and I do need the Laptop every day, so not really a good choice
Anyone here who knows another solution???
I really would appreciate any help
what about removing the back up battery (the one that keeps the clock running) ?
I've never tried it with a laptop and I'm not sure if it's even possible so scour your manual, but on most desktops there is a jumper that you remove to reset the BIOS password. And it's as easy as that. I may be wrong and it's impossible on laptops, it would certainly be a hell of a lot more trouble, but have a look and see if the manual mentions it.
I don't think removing the battery would do anything (It actually powers something called the CMOS, not the BIOS. Easy mistake to make  )
Google resetting laptop BIOS as well see what comes up.
Not easy.
hmm doesnt this thread defeat the whole point of bios passwords in general...security
how could u forget a password you apparently use everyday?
Somewhere on the base of your laptop is a small round hole. push a small pointy thing in there to reset the bios.
Must admit I don't know if this will extend as far as resetting the password but might be worth a try.

In the olde dayes removing the battery or moving a jumper on the mobo would reset the BIOS settings and the password, this technique still works on desktop computers. Nowadays this doesn't work with a notebook - it is an antitheft measure and it can be expensive to have the password reset.
