No sound on video files from digital camcorder (firewire)
I can transfer digital video from my Panasonic NVDS5 camcorder successfully using a firewire cable. The pictures are fine but I do not get any sound on the resulting avi's.
I have tried different settings in DVGate motion but no luck ! The camcorder is 4.5 years old - would this be an issue (in terms of drivers etc.) ?

The age of the camcorder should have no bearing. If you get a picture then you should get sound.
Check that the camera is recording in 16bit audio. It is possible your VAIO does not accept audio at other bit rates.
My camcorder is switchable between 16bit and 12bit, but I have never used the 12bit setting, so I don't know specifically if that causes a problem.
