Hi,
I have had my Sony Vaio for nearly a year now.
It's been fine untill recently. I have noticed the battery and the fan have been overheating a lot, with the battery life not lasting very long at all sometimes, and today I got a message on the battery icon with a red cross through it and a message telling me i need to replace it.
Is this common after such a short period? I am a uni student so obviously use my laptop every day, sometimes for the whole day and others just a short period.
I am not sure whether i am having problems with the batter or the system itself?
Please help!

You are quoting an invalid model. You are quoting the chassis type from the bottom of the Vaio and this may be shared by several different models. Look on the screen surround - your model is something like VGN-NWxxx. You will need the correct model if you need support for your Vaio.
Unfortunately, lithium Ion batteries are considered consumables and are not covered by warranty. With heavy use they do have limited life and I fear you will have to replace it.
