i have a sony z laptop (vpc-z11hgx/x) that came with a 19.5v charger.
now I Iave also an old sony 16v that have the same outlet.
is there any denger in using it? will it work?
thanks
Hi tsuri10,
You have not made it clear whether you propose plugging in the 19.5v charger into the 16v machine, or the other way around.
As Laptop Specialists suggested, using a lower voltage adaptor should not cause damage to the computer (and almost certainly will not work as expected) but may damage the adaptor. If the reverse then you risk damaging the notebook.
In addition to the voltage being the same you also need to consider amperage output from the adaptor. This should be equal to or greater than the original adaptor.

Hi,
I wouldn't have thought that it would work. Sony only make the 16v and 19.5v adapters and if they would work in place of each other then there would be no need to sell two different powered adapters. I'm not recommending it in the slightest but I can't see any harm trying when its a lower voltage. Its only when you try a higher voltage that theres a danger. The only thing that would happen is there wouldn't be any power.

I thought that the 16v is an older version or a slower charging version
usually when a company make two different chargers they put different outlet so you cant make a mistake
those chargers looks exactly the same and they both fit so I assumed maybe I can use both
I am sure someone did try this mistake

my laptop came with the 19.5v charger
and i want to try using the 16v
the Amper is also smaller in the 16v charger (4 instead of 4.7)
