Is it just my model of laptop or do sony have issues with the pre installed recovery partition of all vaio? Its bad enough that you don't get the OS disc with your very high priced piece of kit, instead you get an inferior version. I understand the reason behind this, yet the vaio seems to struggle with it. I got 1 use from my recovery partition and it worked well, but when my wee laptop really began to flag with some problem i could not find i gave the recovery another go, big mistake. It took me 2 months to get it going again ( am a proud guy, i don't need sony or anyone else to fix my laptop ) even with the recovery discs i made.. error 319 error 369 and so it goes. Sony charged me £45 for their 3 recovery discs, which realistically were mine, this was 2 year ago.
last month the vaio started getting all altzhiemers, so i got out my sony branded rec-discs out for a 2nd visit stuck the first one in and now the wee laptop wont do a thing, luckily i made copies from the sony disc,nothing happening, same old errors of old. Why then am i able to download a bootable copy of Ubunto from my desktop, stick it on a disc, chuck it in the laptop and i kid you not, within 5 mins it has installed completely am surfing again, it even installed its updates while doing so, amazing. Put the sony discs in for another go, and the holy screeching noise from the hdd was mental. Now nothing works again, not even a sniff of acknowledgement that a hdd even existed. Man whats that all about? Anyone got a spare vaio hdd, cause sony ain't giving me one.
