MZ-RH1 transferring old MDs to computer

I have lots of MDs previously recorded on my old Sony Walkman MZ-R900.

I now have an MZ-RH1 which successfully plays my old MDs - no problem!

When an old MD is inserted, the mode displayed is "MD - SP".

I would like to transfer the music recorded on my old MDs to my computer using SonicStage software.

When I connect the MZ-RH1 to the computer with an old MD inserted, SonicStage cannot 'see' any data (ie. no music tracks appear on the right hand side of the transfer screen for me to select and transfer to my computer).  With the MZ-RH1 connected and a recently recorded disc in it, SonicStage transfer offers

a Hi-MD device with all the tracks listed - but with an old MD inserted, no device appears for selection.....

I have trawled through the SonicStage help, but have got nowhere with it.....

Can anyone explain how to set up SonicStage to achieve my aim of transferring my old MD's - or point me to the revelant help in the manual or online?

Thanks in anticipation.....

Hello Jazman5.

Unfortunaly this operation is no possible.

As you can read at your users manual (pages 17, 32) the HI-MD functions cannot be used with old MD recordings. You can use your 60´, 74´, and 80´ MD´s as HI-MD after formatting them.

Regards.

P.s. I hope you forgive my poor english.

Saludos.

I use my MZRH1 to transfer old MD recordings to the computer via Sonicstage.

Do you use v4.3 of sonic stage as that is the one i downloaded?

The tracks just appearing in the right hand window and are transfered across to the left window which is your PC.

There is a Minidisc group on yahoogroups.com if you are having difficulties getting MD information

hope that helps

Hi Martin,

Yes, I'm using SonicStage v4.3.

With my new walkman connected, the tracks appear just as you say.

With my old walkman connected, nothing appears (ie. no device to select for input).....

I've written to the Sony Customer Support Center (Basingstoke) to see what they have to say, but in the meantime I will have a look at the Minidisc group on yahoo as you suggest.

Thanks for your reply!

Hi Martin,

Thanks for the very useful pointer to the Minidisc group on Yahoo.

I found this link to new 64 bit drivers:-

http://archivision-directory.blogspot.com/2011/01/download-here-your-new-netmd-usb.html

http://archivision-directory.blogspot.com/2010/10/driver-for-netmd-and-standaard-minidisc.html

This specifically states:-

"HiMD seems to have no problem connecting to a 64 bit PC at least if you use the HiMD mode. If you want to transfer it in early standards like MD and NetMD it needs 32 bit (x86) support on your 64 bit system"
I've only used my new walkman MZ-RH1 with SonicStage in HiMD mode so far.
Under device management, the driver file location is pointing to c/windows/system32.
There are no warning triangles to say the driver is invalid.
I'm wondering if I should download one of the 64 bit drivers in the link above,
but which one?
- NetMD MZ-RH1 and later (HiMD), which lists my walkman model in the support list, therefore I might be able to view the files on my old MD's using my new walkman MZ-RH1 under SonicStage v4.3
or
- MD PC Link USB, which might enable me to read my old MD's on my old walkman MZ-R900?
Do you have any thoughts as to which driver download I should try?
Thanks very much for your help.

What you saying is confusing me.

Are you now trying to use an old MD unit to transfer recordings?

If so old recorders will not works due to DRM.

Only the mzrh1 will transfer music without restrictions.

I only run XP Pro 32bit so i cannot advise on 64bit issues.

I suggest you dig out an old laptop which has xp on it and use that to see how it is supposed to work.
