We know that acc. to SONY poilicies for android os and security updates, it's lacking behing chinese makers in the run since last 2 yrs. I have recieved 2 yrs of security and firmware support for my XA1 Pus; G-3416 variant; since aug-2017 to aug-2019 patch. I was not much happy about it as the updates though were sounding in a regular form, i used to get it every 2.5-3 months, so hardly 10 updates in the 24 month cycle.
So now the question is, acc. to GOOGLE policy, "It's mandatory for OEM companies to give MINIMUM 2YEARS OF OS AND 3 YEARS OF SECUIRTY UPDATES TO THE NEW BUYERS AS A GURANTEED UPDATES FORM". I know, this is already mentioned in google ploicy since several yrs and all the OEM companies say "THE UPDATES AND ITS RELEASE ARE SUBJECT TO TESTING THE DEVICE WITH LATEST PATCHES AND OS BEFORE END RELEASE, AND BLA, BLA, BLA...
But the only thing is that, this time GOOGLE HAS GIVEN FINAL WARNING TO ALL OEM and android phone makers, that this guideline should be implemented to all the range of smartphones that are released during that particular year on a STRICT AND PRIOR basis, failing to comply to this shall end in providing the android os (new or older framework), resulting to end of the agreement with that OEM for further android os and other security patches.
So, can we expect from 2020 onwards, a new android smartphone buyer can buy ANY phone acc. to it's requirement, of ANY brand, in a worry-free manner?
Will SONY be continuing to make android phones by accepting these things, as directed by google in a strict and prior basis?
