Getting birthday notifications

Hi, when I create a contact, I put in the birthday date, why am I not receiving a pop up notification on the applicable date ?  I do not receive any notification, thats embarresing

Why would you expect it to pop up? Which app would do this?  Your best bet is to use some app/widget to display it. Perhaps Dashclock, with the birthdays calender enabled.

Are those contacts were created locally or under a google account?

I created it in the contacts app on the phone

I can understand that, however during the process of creating the contact. the phone will prompt where will you want this contact to be created at I.e Local contacts or Google account.

This makes a differents, because if the contacts is tag to google account and that will link to your calender for notifiaction if someones birthday is coming close.
