Weird issue with Internet browsing

All day today my z2 has been playing up when I browse the internet (chrome). Seemingly at random, I'll click on a link to another website (from a Google search for instance) and instead of opening the page it asks me whether I want to complete action using office suite or HTML viewer. Obviously I want to access it via neither of those things, but chrome, as would usually happen by default. It's nothing to do with the page I'm clicking through to, it's some fault of chrome or the phone. Has anyone had a similar issue?

Then it's a third party app acting up, boot on safe mode and see if you experience the same issue.

That's odd, it could be a third party app

settings > apps > all > chrome > clear data > uninstall updates > restart the phone > check again

Thanks, but I followed those steps and it didn't work. I'll try running antivirus...

OK so I booted in safe mode and the issue didn't persist, which suggests it is a third party app, right? But I've uninstalled all updates on recently installed/updated apps, as well as uninstalling any I downloaded this past week, and it hasn't got rid of the issue. Do I literally have to factor reset the whole phone? There's a ton of stuff I don't want to lose, not least of all my photos and message histories...

open the app drawer > swipe left to right > installed > swipe again > uninstall > uninstall one by one and keep checking until you find the culprit

Seems to have fixed it. Not sure what it was but it's gone. Thanks!
